Come live in southern Kansas City on the Kansas side. Some of the best public schools in the nation, great place to raise kids, low crime, and comparatively cheap housing. You can buy one hell of a house for $750-$1M if that's your thing.

My home's value has increased dramatically over the last 4 years which is extremely annoying though for me right now. The amount in taxes I pay now compared to what I paid 4 years ago is 40% higher. My plan in the next three years is to buy a couple of acres outside the city and build a simple 1,200 ft2 home and a 4 car garage building for what I sell our current home for. I'm definitely not looking to get something bigger. Less crap, the better.

You'd be surprised. I was pulled over while in college in another state (for whatever made up reason they had). Had valid registration & license from my home state. They didn't care & said if I was "living" in this state for more than 30 days I needed a valid state DL & registration. My car was towed "driving without registration" & I had a court date. Went in front of the judge & had to pay a fine for invalid license & registration & given 30 days to provide proof back to the court. This was in NV.

So like I said, depends on the mood of the officers. ymmv

So we go back and forth between FL and NC. FL is my state of residence since I live in FL more than 6 months of the year. I have 2 cars I keep in NC that are registered there, but my drivers license is from FL and the car we take back and forth and the one we mainly drive up there has FL plates. Never even been pulled over. Also been driving the truck with NC plates here in FL the past few months as I needed to bring it down to move some stuff. No issues either. Then again in FL they would be pulling a LOT of people over if they just went after out of state plates.

There's also a big difference between driving a regular car between two fairly close states and an exotic with plates from a thousand miles away. Drove an NC plated f150 in FL, no big deal,.people drove down for vacation all the time. Drove a Montana plated Lambo, you clearly didn't drive that down for a vacation, you're gonna end up with some issues.

Fortunately no, I don’t really shop new cars at all unless it really really makes sense. I like to buy clean used cars and let someone else eat the majority of the depreciation first.

I'm sure that's true, especially if the plates are from a place known for this loophole, however my comments were directed at the other poster who was talking about getting pulled over just for having out of state plates. I can only assume they weren't driving an exotic with Montana plates in college. Could be wrong though.
