Indeed. Out of the bunch here, I would take the CSL or possibly the G80. I6 and a sweet chassis is the way to go. But it also has to look good...

Over this way, the M2 is probably one of the most-often-seen cars on the 'Ring .

All amazing cars in their time (I have had all of them in some sort of version).

I cant seem to find a pic of my E46 in Steel Gray (or was it Grey)

Those e92 wheels are beautiful!! Mclovin those fasho. Altho g82 m4 is an absolute beast, haven’t like the silhouette/stance much. The red m4 csl hits look bit too playful for me esp in gray ext. But!! the black g82 csl looks smoooothhh 🪭. Hmm 🤔 got me rethinking my pos. And, appreciate the post 🔥🏃‍♂️

Not that it would’ve made a difference but why not just pick a base rwd g82 instead of the fkn CS lol. No shit it’s gonna wipe the floor. Wish it was base spec m3/m4 across the board for this one.

Because the previous gen was a CS. The other gen’s, it’s a bit harder to find their highly tuned versions, but even if they were that, it still won’t match up. The video was to show how far the M has evolved from what it was previously. He could have gone CSL and still wiped the floor… which is why in RWD mode it still won even though it’s heavier in this generation’s chassis.

All great cars.

For a weekend fun car I think I’d take the e92 in a manual. The right amount of power for fun, the soundtrack and bonus being naturally aspirated it makes you work for it which makes it so engaging. I know it wouldn’t see which way the G series went but who really cares about that?

I've owned an E46, and three different E92s, all manual. I think about the one I sold to make room for the G80 a lot.

Space Grey over Fox Red, JRZs, an ESS kit, and an Eisenmann Race exhaust that howled like nothing else on the road.

I miss that car.

Not sure why there is a need to drag race these vehicles against each other. All these cars are great in their own right. The next model will always be quicker than the previous however it is not always about a quarter mile time, it is the drive experience of the car & we all have a different opinion on that.

Indeed. It misses the point entirely. Driving isn't really about how fast one gets to 62 or 200 km/h or mph, or whatever.

It is about the chassis balance, the communication between driver and car, the feeling of controlling or pushing until one nearly loses control.

All of these cars are nice enough, but not all of them are the same if judged as driver's cars.

The point-and-squirt crowd will always want the fastest or newest thing, so it is no wonder channels like Carwow water the content down so much.

There is always EVO, Autocar, Catchpole, Schrick, and Harris though.

Yes, indeed. If outright speed is the primary objective, we'd all be super excited about the next wave of electric cars.

That's like lining our Ms next to a Tesla Plaid, the M losing, and then proclaiming the Plaid the better car and driving experience because it's faster.

Not.

I suspect it was done for entertainment value as opposed to any "scientific" reason. It's interesting to see the difference in performance between the different generations.

I was surprised by how much faster the G82 was compared to the F82, even in 2WD mode without launch control.

I like Carwow/matt’s videos, even if you can expect the outcome and there’s wisecracking going on, etc. Take them for what they are.

Honestly… I wish there were more “real-life” normal street driving environment, not perfect roads, not using launch control, just off the line races (in closed and safe environments, of course).

In any event… e92 for the driver engagement, just enough tech (analog gauges but GPS and bluetooth), sleek timeless look, and that amazing exhaust. G80 as the daily with the cool factor of the lasers and buckets (which I actually do find quite comfortable), storage, awesome newer-age tech/apple car play, and MASSIVE power + xDrive.

(I had to F8xs before - a 2015 F80 base and 2020 F82 competition package). I’ve got to say, other than the DCT, the G8x does just about everything better than the last generation. CS transmition coding helps a bit with the lack of the transmission grunt as well. But I always wanted the V8, so there was a reason I went and picked up an e92 as a second car after getting the G80. It’s not winning drag races anymore (if it ever really did), but that redline, exhaust note, and DCT are addictive!)

couldn't stop myself from staring at the wheel gap on the G82, I think someone should show the engineers at BMW, LOOK AT THIS SIR

Unless all others were lowered, I think not (maybe the F82 was)

No one paid msrp in 2019 though and CS models were discounted ~10-20% - my f80 cs lease was $950/month on a 110k car

I’ve owned multiple E46, E9X and F8X M cars, and had I not been in a good position to jump into a 992 in 2022, I would’ve been in a G82 right now. They are all great, but the G82 is on another level. My E9X M3’s were my least favorite of the M cars.

Oddly, I just got a reputation award for my BBS wheel thread for one of my E9X’s.

The G80 is fine by itself, it just looks off next to the previous gens. Can't argue with the performance.

TBH, the ride height is perfect for the car's intended use. I won't lower my M2 Comp either. If I did, I would absolutely destroy the undercarriage when I go to Belgium, France, etc.

Not worth the risk, and it preserves the control-arm geo.

The E46 and E90 are classy and timeless. The F80 is decent. The F looks like... hmmm. I've owned 12 M cars here's my ranking. I don't do any drag racing, so 0 to 60 isn't much of a priority for me. Its more about driving feel, backroads, and N/A motors at 8k RPM.
