To me it seems that as he is growing older, Chris is becoming less caught up in the nitty gritty, pedantic nature of car reviewing and allowing himself to enjoy it.
If you watch chris harris reviews you know that he sees this car positively
It ends here and nithing to be confused about

Problem is...I believe the weak link is the tranny... bmw needs to find or update it for more power...

Why they dont just take the 8speed zf and make a fake manual with a fake clutch ..would solve the issue... use gears 1-4..skip to 6 then 8 for mpgs...have your 6 speed

There is no competition and definitely no Label. That whole Label thing is dead

Comments like this are so wrong. Everyone thinks that when we review a car, we get paid to say positive things. I can promise you that in my 15 years career, never got paid for a review.

What Hariss' review proves is that we all have biases and we all like different things. It's very common when I go to a drive event to have a different opinion from the journalist that just rode with me and drove the same car.

There are too many variables these days when you assess a car, so that will drive some bias.

Agreed. People can get very hung up on some of these things. Heaps of people lost their minds here over the Throttle House review of the G87 M2 when all he said was that objectively the car was better, but subjectively he liked the old car.

But what would I know, my dream M5 is a late model E34 with the 3.8...

I love the throttle house people and i am subscribed to their channelbut i think sometimes they contradict themselves
Give you an example when they reviewed the M8 for the first time they were negative about it but recently they said the opposite while driving it on track
So same people change their minds
And especially this new M5 the more you drive it and live it with it the more you like it
And i have to say this car does not make me miss my M8

I think its refinement of the platform over the lifecycle of the platform. With that as cars come in and out of testing via reviewers perceptions change as other cars get introduce and the market shifts. What you think is garbage may actually be decent with more time behind the wheel and comparison to the rest of the competition.

The M8 at this point is at the peak of its refinement similar to the last gen M5.

If someone has to point out the problem with hating people, then I suspect there are deeper issues involved.

Disliking people and things? Have at it. I dislike my brother's sister-in-law. I dislike the spots on my lawn where my dogs piss and kill the grass.

It sure is and I came this close to getting an M8, particularly with all the incentives/deals out there for it. It's just so elegant, inside and out, but it's at the very end of its' lifecycle (you can't even configure/buy a coupe anymore) and ultimately that and technology advances tipped the scales in favor of the M5.

But every time I see one, sit in one, I have a visceral response. It's the last of a dying but elegant breed.

Just on a light note. Why make something that is not aligned to its true purpose and then a whole lot of tech and mech changes/upgrades to compensate. Although, I appreciate the effort and outcome. The key is for a “hybrid sports car”, this is up there due to its masking abilities.

I’m not in the market for one but sat in one at the dealership when was in for a service. I realise it’s very subjective, but Im not sure i would be able to get over the downgrade in interior quality / feel that they’ve done if I were. The swathes of plastic (soft touch or not) over doors and dash..but I’m a sucker for leather.
