That and the standard Mustang GT has a 4.6L engine and only the GT500 comes with the 5.4L Supercharged V8...oh well though

I have driven both the Mustang GT and the 135i. They are completely different cars that take different paths to accomplish much the same tasks in fairly similar times. If you put $15-20k into a base Mustang GT, there is not a BMW made today that would compete with it in any form of motorsports competition. Looks are subjective and quality is an easy win for the Bimmer but the Mustang is a great car that is about $3k away from being a fantastic car. Nate

I could agree with that , partly but -If you put $15-20k into a base Mustang GT, there is not a BMW made today that would compete with it in any form of motorsports competition.-...no dude if u put that money I mean more money in bmw it would fly ur car doesnt stand a chance , mustang is a boulevard cruiser u think if u change the suspension and everything and put 900horses in ur car it would make that much difference? come on man be serious wheres ur traction control and esp and other bullshit how u gonna drive ur mustang? u need more than 20k.

The Mustang has TC. Any driver worth his/her salt is not going to compete with the TC enabled so it is a moot point.
Dollar for dollar, the Mustang is a much better performance car than the 135i. For $20k you could afford the following modifications for a new Mustang GT. Twin Screw or Roots Supercharger $4-5k Coil-overs, sways, links, etc. $3-5k Brakes/Wheels/Tires (non R-compound) $2-6k Misc supporting mods $2-4k (This could be put into the engine to allow the SC to be set to much higher boost.) In the end, you would have an 11 second car that should pull well over 1 g in the skidpad and outrun any production BMW in any speed event. Having said that, I would rather have the 135i with a tune and various other bits and help my dad turn his new Mustang into the car posted above. Nate |

The Mustang is good for what it is but it is definitely trying to accomplish a different goal than the 135i.
My biggest problem with the Mustang is the suspension. Every time I think about it this pops in my head: |

lib, have you driven a new Mustang GT yet? I was very pleasantly surprised by how comfortable and compliant the stock suspension is. For a car that can pull .85-.9 g in the skidpad, the Mustang has a great ride. Nate

I would also throw the GT500 in the ring against the 135i. Similar dynamics as the standard GT but everything is pumped up to the nth degree. Not a bad deal for $40-45k. Nate

With some decent tires, the Mustang GT is a great autocross car. I have run against quite a few and they have always been competitive. Throw some coil-overs and a rear sway bar on and the GT is a fantastic auto-x car. Nate
