i might end up just getting the civic SI to play it safe. well, safe in terms of me not dumping money into the car on mods.
i know if i get the GTI then a kit, suspension and wheels are a must. i know with the civic, i'll most likely leave that stock.

Also, I'm pretty much a RWD bully now, so there's no way I could go back to WWD (wrong wheel drive)..

I'm late to the party, but thought I would chime in. We bought an '07 GTI (DSG) for my wife, and it is INSANELY fun to drive. It feels much faster than it actually is. The turbo is noticeably laggier than in my 335, but it's not bad, and torque steer can be an issue. Otherwise, I have nothing negative to say about the car. It's very roomy for its size, handles very well for a front driver and gets great gas mileage. We got a Stage 1 APR ECU flash a few months ago, so the car should be putting out about 250hp/300 ft-lbs at the crank - this is all the power you need in a front driver of this size, and the mid-range power is pretty sick. Again, I can't express how much fun the car is to drive, and we've had no problems with it in our first year of ownership. I've been hijacking it from my wife quite a bit lately to keep the miles down on my 335 (which I plan to sell soon so I can order an M3). IMO, it would be a mistake to buy a Civic over the GTI, unless cost is an issue. Good luck!

modding a car isn't something i want to get back into right now. with the SI, i know i'm not going to turn that thing into a rice rocket so i'll probably leave it alone. thanks. yeah its a toss up between the SI and GTI. i've read reviews with the SI ranking #1 and GTI #2.

actually i dont think gti needs much modding compare to the civic. paint the plastic body kit to match the body color or get the R32 kit.
I dont get why you have to mod it, i guess thats really up to you to decide. personally i wouldnt even consider the civic, for the 3k difference its worth it to get the gti. |

Civic Si vs MkV GTi
[u2b]ouWFPb7sm1o&NR=1[/u2b] The problem here is whether both cars are stock, personally I would have thought the Golf would walk away from the Civic but I honestly don't know. |

It's like the S2000..mags can get it 0-60 in 5.3 ish with a 7k clutch drop..you launch off idle and you're looking at high 6's. The Si on a perfect day is going to run mid 6's...the GTI u just mash it and go. |

That's were the DSG comes into play, with it you will launch perfect everything and will walk thing that you simply couldn't in a manual car. If street racing is your thing then a DSG GTi is the way to go, you will surprise a heck of a lot of stuff and earn a lot of respect along the way.
Over here the top Civic is the Type-R but they also make a Type-S which was what I thought we were discussing, the Si has in the US a Type-R engine so both are equal on power though the Golf is up on torque. It's really a case of different characters and driving styles, the Civic has to be spanked to within an inch of it's life before you will get GTi performance, where as the Golf will give you pretty close to top performance from a 1/3 of the throttle. I personally hate the looks of the Civic and like all the things you guys hate about the Golf, I love the black honeycomb detailing but feel the Edition 30 looks even better. Handling wise I would place the GTi ahead as that is the way things are over here in the UK when comparing the GTi vs the Type-R. Do you get the Civic Type-R hatchbatch over there, if so then why not look at it as well. |

If you want the torque get the GTI. It has torque for days. I think that's what makes a car feel fast. The SI is good, but will feel sluggish compared to the GTI. The other part is what you prefer. You just have to get seat time behind the 2 of them. I had a 2002 Civic and a 2002 GTI, and they were worlds apart. I like the quality of the inteiror of the GTI compared to any Honda.

with the GTI, the black plastic has to go and stock wheels are hideous. aftermarket wheels means suspension as well. Quote:

that GTI in the vid was def chipped... if it was completely stock, it would be neck and neck. and i guess driver also matters
Civic SI -VTEC(stays in VTEC range when shifting at 7500rpm or higher) -Lighter -handles better -long term better resale value GTI -nicer interior -availability of DSG -cheaply modifiable($500chip=50hp ish) my SI (rolling start)
