test drove the new Z4 m roadster. FANTASTIC!!

A rare opportunity became available and I test drove the new manual 6 spd z4 m roadster yesterday afternoon. it looked fabulous in red, had the signature quad pipes. interior was rather dull with the cheap looking matt CF trim but this did not distract from the lovely thick m wheel and the sweet ,short throw , ultra-precise manual 6 spd stick. The driving position was classic roadster- low with a view of the lovely front bonnet.
We went on a nice route around singapore- on the expressways twice and on tight small windy roads.
The car sounded great at idle and had a sexy, throaty growl during hard acceleration. pick up was sensational and it just leaped forward with unbelievable ferocity. An old retiree in his 60s tried his utmost to keep up in his red alfa 156 2.0 selespeed and followed me for as fair distance but he could only eat my smoke on a straight. the tight corners were easily taken in 3rd with good composure and car felt very stable even while doing high speed corners.
it retails for about 150k US in singapore. A cayman S Porsche probably offers more prestige and class but i don't think it can match it for its raw, brutish drive.

i think most people can live with evo interior as it is such good value for power. buy evo for incredible power, handling. fullstop.
i bet it can take on cayman and m roadster at the lights- some say it is now a sub 5.0 sec car to 100kmph and it can be a nice family car too. A real mr jekyl and mr hyde car.

why not the 335i? an SA at my local dealer told me that the 3 series lineup will be like this
both sedan and coupe come in 328i (230hp) 335i (300+ hp)
but i wonder if his words are true cos if it is, so there'll be no differentiation between sedan and coupe? it used to be 325i for sedan and 325ci for coupe right?

Both the Cayman S and the M Coupe will pull on the Evo. On the track though, the Evo is pretty even with both of them.

the new 3 series coupe has lost its 5 seat practicality which i miss in my e36 325i coupe. need the space with 4 kids, bro

hi shim, i know a lot of beemer guys are anti evo but the car makes good sense. powerful, big- can put my 3 kids in the rear-(zm roadster, cayman s and e92 335i cannot) and the lovely evo is half the price of 335, z4m, cayman and 335 e92. Also in singapore we pay road tax acording to engine cc, hence evo is still cheaper to run- pay cheaper annual road tax. to put it in another way, i am not swimming in cash, i've got to have looks OR power and cannot afford both looks AND power.

EVO mag may 2006 voted the z4m roadster 1st and cayman s 2nd in a roadster comparison. m roadster beating the cayman for a more raw driving experience by a small margin.
