I don't need a small suv, but the future wife might like it. I would love it if they brought it with a diesel.

I don't get BMW. These small SUV suck on off road, and suck on regular roads, what is a point of this car?

I think we can make a proper conclusion when we actually get to see the finished result. Regardless, it's a popular segment and it makes sense to offer the X1 when BMW does not offer AWD in the 1er as is.

Market segment demand and potential profit. Otherwise it wouldn't happen.

The BMW product line is certainly expanding. It dilutes some of BMW's traditional core values for sure. But we live in a world now where Porsche makes SUV's, so I guess anything can happen :iono:

The current X3 3.0si (with the 260hp N52) starts at $38000. That's damn close to the price of a 135i. I don't know what they'll be able to price the X1 at, and still sell any. Seems like it would be very redundant to the X3, price-wise... and makes little sense. Besides, the X3 is already fairly small.

I love it! But I like strange cars (1999 Z3 Coupe!). It would be great for my wife is they would put in a 2.5L turbo deseil. It would satisfy my desire to get her into a BMW, and her eco-desires.
