I was watching BMW-Web.tv and noticed the German guy said cou·pé and not coupe!

Is there any other words that are not said properly when it comes to our cars? Maybe in Canada/USA we do say coupe? Anyway, if anyone has proof to refute dictionary.com please post the proof.

Too funny... years ago someone corrected me on how to say espresso...it's not ex-presso! Library, not li-berry. I would love to see more car related words if possible!

Well the origin of coupé is French and they say it cou·pé so I would consider that to be the correct way.

Please tell me you didn't really say expresso! That is my pet hate.

I'm not following. This is what I saw on the link. The dictionary to which you cite appears to favor "koop" over "koop-ay":

In the strictest sense, it seems to me that "coupe" in English should be pronounced "koop". Whereas "coupé" should be pronounced "koop-ay" because of the accent on the "e". So, it depends on how you spell it!

It's pronounced coo-pay in pretty much every part of the world except North America.

But to quote an American car collector on Barrett Jackson...

"My car is a coupé... I keep my chickens in the coop!"

As a side note, I can't believe the number of times people have 'corrected' me when I say aluminium instead of aluminum!

Or when I pronounce the 'h' in herb!

Seems that Europeans pronounce it the European way... coupé. In NA it would appear most people say coupe.

Hay hay, I came from a small town and the only coffee then was from the BP gas station... It was as thick as oil.. wait it was!

I don't say that after I was told the very first time... Now I correct everyone else... hmmm how do we say it? "Ass-Press-Oh", No! No! It's "Ess-Press-Oh!" A close one for sure.
