740i tune

Any way to get a DME update from the new 740i? I has the same engine but is putting out 326hp and 332lb/ft.

So much for BMW saying our tunes aren't safe.

The peak torque band in the 740i application is narrower than in the 1er, so it's not all good news....

Wanna bet that it still makes some 300 ft-lbs at 1500 RPM, just like "our" engines? I wouldn't care if it were a little peakier, if it still offered more area under the curve...

The supposedly approved 2010 3-series Tii would have ~350 hp from the N54. Wouldn't you rather have that update?

What's the point on speculating about applying an update from a car that doesn't exist yet?

If you're going to try to apply a different mapping to the car to get more power and torque, just apply a proper 3rd party one that makes more power and torque - it'll be just as "official" as trying to take a 7 series map and put it on your 1. Except it will work ;-)

Messing with sensor data to trick the DME is different than a BMW factory tune.

I'll bet there will be more than just software to that change. You may be able to copy the differences, but BMW probably won't stand behind it so you'll be no better off - unless you feel that the BMW mods will have been more carefully vetted. Perhaps at some point someone will be able to get the details from one of their engineers.
