please humor me
a friend of mine has a 2005 RSX type S with about 10k miles on it. He was thinking about trading it in and get the new TL type S. I thought that he would be able to sell it for around $16-17k or so. So we looked it up on KBB.com and it said he could sell it for a lil over $22k. I was shocked. Is this even freaking possible??

If he's expecting that, I think he'll be sadley dissapointed when he visits the dealership. I've worked in automotive sales, and everyone comes in saying "KBB says my car's worth $X"; in reality, I can count on one hand the number of people who got near that number for their vehicle. You have to also consider things such as market saturation and color. In Metro-Detroit, it's rare for someone to purchase their vehicle (whether new or used), therefor used car's are worth less then in other markets.

it was private sale. I looked it up too and got the same thing. I used to sell cars as well and this just threw all my beliefs out the door. |

Yeah, I think a lot of people look at the "private sale" number rather than the "trade-in" number from KBB because they like the higher number.
![]() FWIW, my own experience in buying two new cars recently (the 330i and an Oddysey) -- Carmax gave me much less than KBB trade-in for our 1997 Civic EX, and both Carmax and the Honda place offered much more than KBB trade-in value for our 2000 Accord V6.

bought a 2001 honda accord ex for $20,000.....in 2001
trade it in a couple of years later(in 2003) for $15,000.....with over 40,000 miles.... KBB valued it at $15,000
