Im no fan of GM cars (i only like the Corvettes), but there are plenty of people who do. They didnt get to this point by building crappy cars. They've been the number one seller of cars for a long time. They got into this situation by not trimming their numbers and benefits over the years. They kept growing in size eventhough their marketshare was not increasing (the Japanese have been nibbling away for the last 30 years). As the market leader, you will at sometime reach market saturation and your marketshare will decline, but your expenditures (employee benefits and payroll) has to equally decline.

Thats my opinion...
You make some very valid points in your argument, but the reason why their marketshare declined is because Imports created better cars for less money, so people bought a superior product like toyota instead of a domestic. The unions have raped and pillaged the shit out of the companies. The reason Ford is doing better than the others is because they followed the marketplace when their was a demand for smaller and more fuel efficient cars, instead of producing the same huge shit they had been producing in the past... You have to cater to the consumer, and GM needs to lose everything instead of bailing because the company isn't competitive

Your own post in the past... You were saying that you worked with the construction of these vehicles and worked closely with the QC department...

I work with the construction of PARTS, and for all the manufacturers, not just GM and Ford. More of my business is with the Japanese and German suppliers than GM and Ford. This month I'm working on a line for Mercedes/Chrysler stability control modules. It would shock a lot of you how many components are shared between manufacturers. Later this year this same line will be making the exact same part for Kia.

It's comical to me to watch people outside the industry go on and on about vehicle quality when the vast majority of them have never set foot in an auto plant.

I'm, well aware of the crossover of many of the parts... The 300c is basically all the old Merc parts on a crappy body, yet still feels like a turd.... maybe a little design by the domestic automakers would help their perception, but that will never happen...

Do you have any input on the Mercedes traction control? Change it so it doesn't ruin the driving experience of the car like the current ones do by turning on even if you barely touch the gas...

I don't design them, I build the machines that build them. That's actually what I'm working on right now as I'm typing this.
