Red face Damn Samsung LED Series 55" For $4,000

damn just saw the tv up in best buy and i must say it blows my 52" sony bravia out of the waters like no other. sad thing is we only bought our tv like 1-2 years ago at $4,000 almface:, i guess technology is both good and bad; for your wallet that is .

but damn it really gets to me how you buy something that is the "best" at the time and given time what you can buy with the same amount of money for the "new best".

i have a 46" led samsung. it's a great tv. $4000 is way overpriced, but then again i paid $1800 on samsung employee cost. i believe the 55" is $2100 at cost.

plasma = what crt tv was before plasma...it's not necessarily outdated, but it's damn near close. too many problems with plasmas (burn in, etc.)

LED = how the LCD tv is backlit. it's efficient, extremely high contrast ratio, energy saving. the TV itself is just an LCD tv with a LED backlighting system. the picture is much sharper and smooth than it's predecessors and MOST plasma tvs. plus, it's less than an inch think.

LCD tv's have come a long way since they first came out. LCD tv's used to be rather expensive, but the price has dropped significantly. there really isn't a reason one should buy a plasma anymore, unless you're buying a super expensive badass plasma.

What is the model # of the LED? Any reviews of it online?

I will miss plasma TV. The image quality has always looked better to my eyes. Less harsh, smoother edges, no motion trails, etc. Even compared to the highest quality LCD, a medium quality plasma has looked better to me.

I'm just wondering if it's that much better as to justify the price. That's a big $$ hike over an equivalent size LCD. I need a new TV and I want a good one, but I could buy a pretty nice Canon L lens for the price difference between a regular LCD and the fancy LED backlit one.

Get this:

http://www.jr.com/sony/pe/SON_XEL1/

it's a steal at only $2500.00. You get a whole 11 inches. Actually, the thing is pretty cool if you see one in the Sony store. It's ~3mm thick, and that's mostly just for the casing.

Yeah, the display on that OLED is recockulous. They were demo'ing Iron Man on Blu-ray at the Sony store when I went to go take a look around. I was seriously impressed by the clarity of this thing.

70" Is it a display or a projector?

I don't think that's OLED, that's plasma AFAICT.

Yes, it's plasma. But, it's ONE inch thick, 600hz, and it uses a wireless external tuner, so you can mount it on the wall and not worry about cables. Seriously, it is very slick (not cheap either though).

You'd be better off getting a 60" Pioneer Kuro 600M for about the same money. It's an Elite glass, but has no stand or speakers. It's the best TV out now, and they won't last long since it's limited production.

It's even cheaper here, but I don't know anything about this place, and they'll proably add shipping.
