But because its from MTM its almost $4k for that software upgrade. MTM is kind of like the Dinan or ACS of the Audi tuners. Every upgrade is at least 2x that of all the other tuners. Some are considered worth it and some aren't.

mtm has always made super cars with great amounts of power. but, you are right, they are for the money always. what i found kool was that the new a4 being a bigger car, with almost the same amount of power as the m3, makes the audi a good choice also.

new S4 is 1 hell of a car..had a chance to drive the a6 3.0T(same engine) before the S4's came out.. smoother than you'd believe..i can only imagine what the S4 can do...too bad I have lost faith in Audi techs.

I used to have a chipped B5 S4 and while the power output can be made to match higher powered cars like the M3, there are other factors that make the M3 much more fun to drive. For me, its the handling of the M3 that makes all the difference. The car feels so much more balanced that even when you're pushing it the car fees like its capable of so much more. In the Audi, the understeer was very noticeable even with aftermarket suspension.

The new S4 is going to be a great car for sure and it seems like they're shooting for a more balanced setup that's closer to 50/50 than they did in the past so that should help a lot. Also, the rear biased AWD system is something that will be very cool. Just keep in mind that the S4 was never meant to be a direct competitor to the M3. It never was but people like to compare them all the time. The S4 is supposed to directly compete with the 335. The RS4 is the competition for the M3. Unfortunately, they are never released at the same time so they are always trying to one up each other instead of just coming up with their own unique design. That's what was great about the C63 and M3 being released at the same time. When the current M3 was released, the RS4 was already 2 years old. The same will be the case when the new RS4 is released. The M3 will already be on its way out and being redesigned.
