Going to New York City... Any Recommendations?
Going to New York City for the first time Saturday, any places I should hit besides the obvious tourist spots?
Thanks.

you've got to get the view from up top. prolly the ESB overlook is the best...don't spend the extra $$$ to get up to the 102nd floor.

dont forget one of the best zoos in the world...The Bronx Zoo. I live like 5 minutes from it....I guess living here ya kinda take it for granted...but its world renown....people come from all over the world to visit the BX Zoo....really is an amazing place. When your inside its hard to believe you are in the middle of the BX.
Empire State Building is a must like ellipsis said. USS intrepid was just refurbished and its apparently amazing...so if your into war/planes/ships...thats a great place to visit. Nightlife: ton bro....AER, Buddha Bar, 230 Fifth, Marquee, Columbus 72 (Pulse 87 plays live from here every friday night i believe,..they're like the club station up here on FM) PM me if ya need any others. Enjoy!!

Take the double decker tour buses if you have the time....one package comes with a boat tour that goes near the Statue of Liberty.
And BMW of Manhattan

Born & Raised in NYC/Queens....
Walk around... a lot, you'll surprise yourself and see stuff at the same time. Don't walk slow! --------------------------------------------------------------- -Hit at least 1 stadium, Yankee stadium (for the history), or Citi Field (for the stadium) ---------------------------------------------------------------- -If you're going to go out... bar hop. Most clubs are full of douchebags, so you're better hitting a few bars/lounges and getting a better feel for things. (Not sure what your scene is, so I'm just generalizing.) ---------------------------------------------------------------- -EAT! --Go to Shake Shack for a great burger... chances are there will be a line, but it's worth it. (http://www.shakeshack.com/) --Hit at least one steak house... Peter Lugers in BK is a good start, or there are plenty of good ones in the city. --Korean BBQ... some good spots 32nd between 5th & 6th ave. (Wonjo FTW) --Dessert... Max Brenners, Serendipity, and a few good dessert trucks roaming around. ---------------------------------------------------------------- http://newyork.going.com/index.php Check out that site... sometimes they have cool events or happenings that you can check out.

GO TO THE CHICKEN AND RICE STAND ON 53TH AND 6TH. Try a NY Cheesecake from a Magnolia Bakery, its fucking heaven. Go to Zebars on the Upper West side and grab some sandwiches/ soup and eat it at central park. Go to the Lower East Side and eat at Katz Delicatessen.

Keep a few dollar bills on hand at all times. When you use a restroom, chances are that a guy is holding the soap dispenser and paper towels. You have to tip to wash.

the corned beef sandwiches have an acquired taste - if you enjoy sinking your teeth into 2 inches of corned beef doused in some fatty sauce, you'll be satisfied...and while the place has great history and tradition, it stands in the shadows of much better places to sit down and eat. oh yeah - the place is dirty, the line is long, and the tables/seats are tiny. i would recommend going elsewhere. if anything, go here for the "experience". my personal reccomendation, as I have tons of experience eating at all types of resturaunts in NYC: Churrascaria Plataforma (212) 245-0505 316 W 49th St (Between 8th Avenue and 9th Avenue) New York, NY 10019 it's a brazilian steakhouse, all you can eat, juicy, tender steak/pork etc. they come to your table with the meat steaming and dripping in juices on skewers...it's just heaven. |
