Canon 17-55 f/2.8 IS - $924 at bhphoto.com

I just pulled the trigger and bought this. Yes, it's EF-S and, no, it's not an L, but the reviews of this lens have been astounding and the 18-55 kit lens just hasn't been fast enough for me and my 300D lately, due to it's relatively weak high iso performance. I need to upgrade the camera too, but glass is priority for now - garbage in, garbage out.

Their site lists it for $999, but I found this link on another forum, so through I'd share. Lens arrives on Friday.

Good show Grip! I went "all-in" over the holiday and got a 30D and the 17-55...I am quite pleased with quality so far! I was upgrading from 300D/17-85.

exAudiGuy - Glad it was a good upgrade. Actually, I didn't think that the 18-55 stock lens was as bad as everyone makes out. I got many great images with it. But f2.8 and 3-stop IS really make the 17-55 attractive for more challenging indoor photography and landscapes (I hate carrying a tripod).

I really want to upgrade the 300D too, but it's a matter of priority and I chose not to splurge and get both.... yet. The 300D is still a pretty decent camera overall if you can get enough light to the sensor to use <800iso.

Congrats on the lens! I really wanted this lens, but I felt that I wasn't ready for such an expensive lens as I feel I still have time to grow until I could really use that lens, so I had to stop short and ordered a Sigma 18-50mm F/2.8 EX MACRO.

Enjoy the 17-55 IS, honestly I've heard people say the only reason its not an L is because its an EF-S. Post back w/ your shots when you get it
