318i new engine from 2007?

Hi there,

Looking to buy a used 318i, petrol, automatic, under 30,000 miles.
Was going to settle for a dealer's one, from 2005/06.
But I was told that from 07, the engine got changed, to a more powerful and more economical version. A dealer told me this.

This table shows it.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_3_S...E90%29#Engines

Does anyone have any more information about these changes?

Is it worth shelling out an extra 1k for a later 07 or 57, rather than 06 or 56?

Also, do you think there will be much difference between buying a 15,000 mile car, compared to a 30,000 one?

many thanks
