As (ahem) someone with 30 years experience, if you're planning on a heavy night out, this is my advice.
Prior to setting out, hydrate your body - 32oz of water or juice. If you have some multivitamins, load up on any that have B12 in them. Take 200-300% of the daily dose of B12. Eat - not only will the food delay the absorption of food, you will also drink less if you have a full stomach. When you get home, drink another pint or two of water and pop a couple of tylenol. Keep a pint of iced water and more tylenol by the bed. If you wake up at 5AM, drink the water and pop the pills and you will be feeling a lot better than you would when you finally get up at 11AM Beer: Guinness does not give me a hangover. In my day, I could do 12-14 pints of the stuff in a sitting and not get a headache. Darker hoppier ales and IPAs do give me a headache. Wine - stay away from red in any large quantity. Liquor - in any quantity, most will cause a hangover but I do better with Vodka and Gin than I do with Whiskey. Your typical Rum (Bacardi) is light in alcohol and you may stretch it further. Again - stay hydrated. Drink a glass of water or a virgin juice drink every now and again...if you're in a club, get an OJ and tell people it's a screwdriver. Or cranberry and tell people it's a vodka and cran - no biggie.

One of the best things you can actually do is consume a lot of fat because it slows the absorption of alcohol... so load up on some hot wings or a burger before you start binge drinking and make sure you drink lots and lots of water before hand. Followed by lots and lots of water before you pass out lol

b12 vitamins are the best! helps your tolerance if you take it before. when you get home trashed, go puke it all out so it doesn't sit in your stomach all night. take more b12, down a huge glass of water (or as much as you can), sleep and wake up like nothing ever happened.
i've done this after the last few birthdays and have woken up the next day perfectly fine.

When you order any kind of drink at the bar, get a water chaser as well. The alcohol that is being consumed is depleting the water that your body stores. The water you drink will push through your body keeping those muscles hydrated so the fatigue will be less the next day.

My advice is try to stick to beer and sip it as slow as you can. I'm sure your friends will buy you shots but try your best to do most of your drinking with beer. Last edited by Cosmop; 02-07-2010 at 01:41 AM.. |

b12 vitamins
eat fatty foods drink plenty of water (can't stress this enough, especially if you're drinking hard alcohol) if you need to drink beer all night, try to keep it hefeweizen. the yeast will prevent hangover. just know that you're going to get hammered and there's very little you can do to prevent this. you can turn down drinks... but what's the fun in that? |

Don't think it's been mentioned, but Pepcid AC helps a ton. It slows the effect of alcohol hitting you, thus you can don't get as drunk. However, it does allow you to drink ALOT more.
An example: I normally get pretty faded after 6 shots and a mixed drink. But when i take a pepcid, i can usually drink about 9 to 10 shots and 3 or 4 mixed drinks and a few bottles of beer to finish off the night. Probably not the best thing to take but i don't do it often...just when i know there's going to be alot of drinking involved. |

have a protein shake or two before you go out...the idea is just to fill up your stomach with something. usually i'll start to get buzzed around 7-8 shots, and a beer or two when my stomach is at least half full with something.
basically, you are just going to have to ride out the storm. have fun tho! |
