135i?

I am about to place my order for a 335i on March 15th. I'm not worried, but would be a little disappointed if they made a 1 series that is faster than the 335i. But I have to admit that it is intriguing. What do ya think?

From Car and Driver, "Another tantalizing possibility is the twin-turbocharged, 300-hp 3.0-liter six found in the 335i. As with other BMWs, the 1-series will be offered with sport option packages on all arrays, and an M version isn’t out of the cards, either."

It would be fun, but overall the 1 Series is a disappointment compared to the e90.

So, all you plan to do is 0-60 (or 0-100 km/h) in your car? Who cares if it is 0.2 sec faster. Looks ugly as compared to 3er and is a totally different car.

Enjoy your 335, and post some pics

0-60 is not the only factor. The first major mod I plan on are coilovers and other handling before horsepower. And like I said, it doesn't really worry me, it would just be a little disappointing. Even though it may be faster, it's still not a 335i. I had an s2000 for five years, and the best advice and opinions I received was from the S2KI forums. E90Post seems to be along the same line and I do value other feedback.

holding off is never a bad decision. if the 135i ends up coming out and you want it, you can still get it. however, if it comes out, and you don't want it, by that time all the first year kinks in the 335i will be ironed out. its kind of a win win. the 335i is not going anywhere soon.

LOL.....I hear ya, but I'm too impatient to wait. 4-5 Months to get my ordered car will drive me crazy enough. Besides, I don't think the 135i (if it is produced) will be as good all around as the 335i, but maybe it will be...who knows....I'm sure someone on this site has some "secret info" to share.

i can tell you this: the 335i will provide the more superior every day driving experience due to the fact that it is more roomy and probably will have nicer seats than a 135i.

the 135i will be more catered to the sport enthusiast, considering it will have 500lbs less weight which will improve both handling and acceleration.

if you're the drag-strip or auto-X type, i'd say the 135i is for you. it will most likely run around a track faster than a 335i. however, if you want a great every day passing car that still has loads of power on tap, go for the 335i.

I had the exact same dilemma. The only thing that even slightly turned me off from the 335i in the first place was that it was a heavy luxury car with an open diff. By far the most exciting car to drive I've ever driven is a lotus exige, and I've driven a lot of cars. The Lotus is simply too tiny to carry anything or be very comfortable. A smaller lighter 335i would be an amazing daily driver though. Anyway... I decided to just get the 335i for a few reasons:

1) Despite it being a little heavier and larger than I would like it is still an amazing car to drive.

2) For a car slightly over $40k it is by far the best value in its class out there right now.. nothing else can touch its combination of performance, drivability, technology, value retention, build quality, looks, warrantee ect ect

3) When it comes to cars there is ALWAYS something better right around the corner... if you wait for it you'll never stop waiting.

4) BMWs retain their value very well, so if I really want to get rid of it in a couple years it won't be that bad.

5) The first car they bring to the US will probably be that 5 door hatchback thing... then maybe a coupe.. then maybe a vert.. then maybe an M1/M2 coupe... If this M 1series coupe is ever produced and sold in America it will be the one I want, but who know how long that will be. What happens if you wait for the 135 and then when that comes out you find out the M1 will be around in 8 months? Just get the 335i it's an amazing car that will not disappoint.
