"This copy of Windows is not genuine"
After about 4 months of running Windows 7 build 7600, last night my screen went completely black with a watermark in the bottom right corner that says;
Windows 7 Build 7600 This copy of windows is not genuine I've tried to use different product keys to fix the problem but they all keep getting denied. Has anyone else had this problem and been able to solve it? Thanks. |

A new Windows 7 Update is checking product key validity. If you installed that update and weren't running a legit key, that's probably what you're facing. If you're running a legit key, and have gotten this message, I guess you'll be talking to Microsoft Customer Support to get your fix.

Microsoft will be able to help you if it's legit.
If it's not legit, buy a legit copy. I had the RTM until it came out to the public, with some hardcoded workaround (can't remember what). Stuff like that is good to be available so that people can get a taste for it and see if they actually want to get it before committing funds. |

I'm not sure if it's still going on...but if you have any xxxx@yyyy.EDU address, there's an education Home Premium Discount. I got my copy for around $30. Even better is you can choose your flavor, 32 or 64 bit.

I got the copy of the program from a friend who ripped it onto a DVD-R from mininova at the time, so I don't think its considered 'legit' to most people.

its not considered legit by any standards. What is it you are trying to do? You should be able to disbale Windows Genuine Advantage. If not mabey get another "copy".

YouTube it. I think there are guides for how to get by this. I don't know if you can still get by once it locks you out, though. You might be able to now, but I don't know. For me, it was pretty easy to do when the computer was still functional.

I ended up picking up a copy on eBay for under $100 so I don't have to deal with the hassle of the pirated copy. I guess there's no easy way out, haha.

Edit: You didn't even save any money. Since I'm sure you paid shipping, this probably comes out to the same price. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116754

You're actually misinformed as it's not a rootkit by any standards. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=380212249334 I'll continue to enjoy my $75 copy which does exactly the same thing as the one you posted does. Carry on. |

I used to get the same message. Problem is, the code I used was from the OEM key that came with my laptop. Apparently, some keys are Windows specific. I used a non OEM Windows xp disk to reinstall Xp. That didn't take the OEM key. So I had to track down a OEM copy and that seemed to fix the problem

I've been running Windows 7 since December and haven't had any problems with anything. I can update and my copy is "genuine." MS can't even detect it. I run the malicious spyware tool that they release every month that usually detects pirated copies. I'm not going to explain how I did it. By explaining it, I am "selling" it. Search.
