I shot most of the event with a Canon 40D and a 70-200L f/4 IS

For the pit area and the hairpin turn at the end, I used a wide 17-40L

Wow, gotta love the 70-200L...not terribly fast at f/4 but as you've proven, it's a great lens.

I shot last season with the 2.8 and it was invaluable when shooting at dusk or at night races. However, it is alot bulkier and pricier
