Brands like Chanel, LV, etc. don't go on sale. If anything, the special edition stuff goes up in value later on.

Lower tier brands like Burberry and Coach do have outlets though.

One of my ex girlfriend's works for Louis Vuitton and she told me LV never has sales and at the end of their "summer fashions" etc they shred all their leather so they can keep their value. Purses, wallets, etc everything is shredded at the end of their term.

Try going to a legitimate store and get her something less expensive?
You can get stuff at T&Co for under $150. Although, it's hard to pick out jewelry for someone else.

I disagree about the sales. The economy has done some crazy things! Last year, the woman we usually buy from at NM called me and told me Prada was having a sale on ALL shoes for two days. 30% off! Even David Yurman had a sale this year on certain items.

I've never seen Chanel on sale at Saks though.
