Improving short-term memory
Okay. I have a serious issue with losing small shit or forgetting simple things. If I take something out, use it, then put it down to go do something else, I usually forget where I put it because I unconsciously just set it down at some location out of either habit or because I didn't need it.
Things I sometimes go back for in the morning are keys, my phone, my work phone, tools, etc. Recently I had to go on a hunt to find my work phone because I ended up leaving it somewhere other than my room. I'll always leave something small in another place. I've done all sorts of stuff to try and improve my memory so to speak. I've made myself put stuff in specific places when I get back, I've checked and re-checked before I've left, and I go through a mental list right before I leave of what I need. What can I do to stop forgetting the little stuff? It's like my short-term memory sucks for small items. I feel like it may be because I'm way to pre-occupied with the more major things at hand. And no, I don't do drugs so don't call me a pothead Last edited by fdsasdasdf; 05-02-2010 at 02:59 PM.. |

Have a routine and be more organized. Don't keep putting stuff in different places.
Also take mental notes of what your doing to keep track of yourself. For example, if you set down a paper to go get your cell phone, talk to yourself about it. Don't just do it without thinking. That's how you forget. There are also a lot of good supplements you could take to help. And if you really want to work on it, do brain teasers and thinking games. I have been through it all with my head injury. I couldn't remember anything. It was crazy |

That sounds more like a concentration deficit than a memory problem. I would try to make a habit of putting stuff like keys, phone, etc in the same place every time so you're less apt to forget where you put it.
