I think its just that you're the better driver. He should have turned the DTC on. But his shifting may have been poor too. I used to drag a long time ago and knowing when to shift because the is no more torque-push is critical. if his shifts were flimsy, your lead is expected.

Every 350z and G35 that I ran into got their asses smoked!!!!!!!!!!!!
Again, if you read my post from page 1, what exactly does that mean?

Given equal drivers the difference between a stock 335 and a stock 2007 G35 is probably 1/2 a second in the 1/4. That's probably about 2 to 3 cars or 15yds. If that's getting smoked, then yes, you smoked them.

It means he started pulling away at a power walking pace, while the other car is going a regular walking pace.

There was a 350Z at the Famosa dragstrip. He got a 14.73@97.42mph. On that same track, same day...I got a 13.55@104.14mph in my 06 M3, which is about the same quickness as my 335i sedan. I think the 350Z is just as quick as the G35, So over a second difference in the qtr mile is getting smoked. It would be like us running against a E55 AMG in our stock BMWs.
