Should items for sale have to have a price?

I vote yes. My old TL board was like this, and while it was frustrating every once in a while, all and all it was much better. This isnt ebay where things should be auctioned off. If you have something to sell, you should HAVE to post an asking price. if you want to set it higher and drop it after a week or two, fine. if you want to post a price + OBO, that is ok, but at least give us something to work off of.

i completely agree with you! i especially hate shit like "PM me for price and/or pics." post the damn pics and info if you really want to sell something, don't just do "a floor mat for sale, pm me for details."

Well, if it becomes mandatory to put a price, I am sure a lot of people who just want offers will just be smart asses and put an insane price above what the part is worth followed by "obo"(for example: stock 325 grilles: $200/obo)... Then more rules have to be placed on putting fair market value blah blah blah... Just more of a hassle to change things up.

For sale section is meant for private sales between 2 private parties. I dont really think its our place to force people to set prices and regulate that. We will be putting in an ebay style user reputation system soon between buyers/sellers, so if someone gets shafted on a deal they would get negative reputation, etc etc..

The point of the marketplace (IMO) is to spread word to everyone that I have a certain item for sale. Yes, in the end it does become a private party deal, but if you don't include pricing and pictures, wouldn't the potential buyer be wasting his and the seller's time by contacting him asking for the price and pictures just to find out that it's 1. too expensive or 2. the product is not in great shape?

Posting initial price and pictures will save time and weed out those really not interested.

It really comes down to time and energy. If I log in, and see there is a nice item in the marketplace, but there is no price or pictures, I won't even bother PM'ing the seller. Who knows if its going to take days for him/her to get back? Who knows if the price is what I'm looking for..or if the quality is there? As a buyer, I want to know now, what is the price, and what kind of shape its in.

Just my rambling.

everyone has good points. and even though both sides have good points, if the mod isnt on our side, none of this matters.
Booster is right, anyone can sell a set of wheels for 2,000,000 dollars or best offer, but its just as stupid and a waste of time then this whole, email me with a price/offer. most people are gonna be like, "2 million, thats retarded, im not gonna bother emailing" or "no price here, thats retarded, im not gonna bother" But if i saw blackline tail lights with a price i liked, SOLD! its that easy. So the marketplace can stay exactly the way it is for all i care, right now im in the market for black line tail lights, rims, and a spoiler, and im not gonna bother emailing anyone who has those for sale with no price. so good luck.

The way I think about it is it is like price discovery on an open market. I don't think most people here are out to screw others, but without showing the prices for other similar items that are currently for sale or have previously been for sale - no one knows how to price their item. It's almost a self-fulfilling prophecy: I want to list my widget for sale, but because all the sales have been done through PM, I have no idea of the market value range for that item - so then I say "PM me for price." And the dance continues.

But usually when that happens, the idea backfires and they usually end up having to lower their price like crazy.
