It's just the nature of selling things when you're not a retailer. You could be selling a Bugatti for a dollar and people will still try to get it for 50 cents.
In reality, as a buyer why would I NOT try to get it for less than the asking price? When you bought your car did you walk in and write a check out for MSRP? I sure hope not! There is a difference though between lowballing and negotiating. I tend to always, and I mean ALWAYS, do the latter. If you put something up for sale for exactly what you want to receive then you're an amateur in the selling game. That's just how it works... Exactly.

You're telling me you offer someone 50% of what it gets for on ebay, and you're seriously considering paying a real price? I call bullshit if that's the case.... |

Is it that hard just to ignore them? I've received some lowballer offers in the past and you just laugh and move on. Not sure why you let it get to you...

Yes I realize the immediate response is 'well ask how much they're offering from the getgo', but this all scares away buyers who will offer a REASONABLE price, after getting all the information they need. That's why it pisses me off, they're a waste of time (as a seller) and end up scaring away possible sellers (as a buyer) BECAUSE of said waste of time. |

What were you selling? Sorry if you've covered it but I can't read through the whole thread.

Getting offers as low as $200. Crazy that they're selling for that much, won't deny that, but these offers are just ridiculous...especially as I guarantee their end goal is just to sell it on ebay themselves. |

I'll add, since we are now talking about negotiating and not just straight annoyance by up front low offers...
When negotiating I always start on the far side of reasonable. This gives the negotiation a place to go, and it also gives room for both parties to be happy with the end result. Each side has to be happy with the result or it won't go through. But the buyer has to feel just as satisfied as the seller, that he was able to "get a deal". Now, far side of reasonable can change a lot depending on what the item is and if MSRP's are easily viewable. For the iPad, something that has many variations and types, I would say $200 isn't a completely ridiculous starting place. If the iPad is new in box and you just don't want it, why don't you just return it to the store? If you were looking to turn it for a profit, why haven't you posted it on e-bay? ![]()
