Sensor Cleaning

Just wondering what all you guys out there use?

I was trying to take a couple of shots for this weeks entry in dpchallenge and ended up spending most of the evening cleaning the sensor.

First time that I had tried to take photo's against a pure white background and was appalled by how dirty the camera had become in the couple of years I've had it

After some air blowing it was better, but still fairly dirty, so I broke out the sensor swabs and eclipse cleaning fluid and set to work, sweating hard. After about four goes and another air blast I had a sensor that was at least clean enough to work with. Though there are still a couple of very small spots, but they don't show except when you go trying to find them.

As I work with laser optics I was reasonably happy to do the work, especially as the only thing that we've found any good at work for optical cleaning is pharmaceutical grade methanol (99.9% pure) and eclipse is mainly methanol. But working on your own kit sure makes you sweat!

I use a rocket blower on a regular basis.

Once in a while I bring it in to a service center in the city for a thorough cleaning.

I wouldn't ever touch the sensor. No cleaning solutions. It can only get dirty when you change the lens. Let the manufacturer clean it. If you shoot in raw you can take a reference (called image dust off) picture and with the software remove the dirt from the picture.
