What TV to buy thread

My dad wants a new TV. At first he wanted another LCD because he thought that the plasmas still have burn-in and only last about three years. I've convinced him that the technology has progressed since ten years ago.

I went with him to Best Buy to check out some of the models and one of the salesmen was actually very knowledgeable, as opposed to the high school kids they typically employ. When we compared them, the LED's just look really bright and the plasmas seem to have the best colors.

I think we're leaning towards this one

http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-TC-P...0549683&sr=8-1

Any other recommendations? I think he wants at least a 50", and probably a plasma. Budget is about 1500-2000 even though the panasonic^^ is alot less than that.

If you don't mind the weight and your room is set up to not produce tons of glare, I'd always recommend the plasma. You're right that your dad needs to re-acquaint himself with the progress plasma has made. It's too bad it made such a bad name for itself with the early examples though.

Got it at PC Richards for $1799 I believe.

They will work with you on the price. I told them I could get it for $1799 @ eastcoasttvs.com and the manager agreed to sell at that same price.

hmm, I'll probably try that for whichever model he wants. I might wait until the black friday madness is over though
