Office Chair..
Yes very random I know, but anyone have any suggestions on a comfortable office chair? Seems like i spend more time sitting in this damn office then anything else, and this chair just ain't cutting it.
When i think of a chair I would love to have, Scarface comes into my mind: Anyways, what would you guys suggest?

Herman Miller is very well known for those types of chairs, and they put to shame any of their competitors chairs (I can attest from personal experience), so definitely give them a shot at least. They're great office chairs!

Personally, I use a "made in China" chair...has just about the same number of adjustments or functionality as a Steelcase Leap or Herman Miller Aeron chair...but cost me $200. It sounds like you want an old school office chair...something with a lot of leather and wood construction. These chairs are generally rigid so they don't have much adjustments. So generally...they are not as good as a modern chair (if you plan on sitting in it all day long). You won't be able to adjust the height of the arm rests, the lumbar, how forward the seat pad is etc. But if you're into that sorta thing...then Steelcase or Herman Miller is the wrong place to start as they are pretty modern. I take it you want something in leather...with metal/wood accents...in a wing back chair form factor. Something you typically see judge's sitting in. Something like this (of course perhaps in a different colour)? If so...then search for "wing back, tufted, lawyer or judge's chair" If you want something really wild or crazy...you may need to go for something antique or custom built by a local furniture guy... Guy who says their chairs are similar to scarface chair: http://www.officechairsonsale.com/ha...chair-899.html And then the chair currently at the oval office: http://www.newyorkfirst.com/gifts/5050.html Take a look at the Gunlocke Washington. The preferred chair of "eight US Presidents". If it was good enough for their asses... Last edited by spacedogg; 05-13-2008 at 03:57 AM.. |

Aeron chairs are totally overrated IMO. I have a very comfortable and functional chair in my office....but I can't remember the make. I will check when I am back in the office next Tuesday.

Good topic. Because this is where alot of us spend most of our time. I got one of those ergonomic chairs. But it is crappy and not well made. Starting to look for another one...

I bought a new home office chair on Saturday, from Staples.
$349, not on sale. It was the most comfortable chair at Staples or at (Office Max/Office Depot - don't know which it was). I bought a new chair for my office at work ~5 months ago. Sign on bottom says 'made for Backsaver Acquisition Corp', 'made in Canada'. An administrator gave me the name and address of a local office furniture store, and said go pick one out - I went, I tried, and picked it. I think it was ~$1200. Already, one of the wooden armrest braces is scratched to hell by the housekeeping employee who vacuums. It's not a product I would buy online. You really just have to sit in a bunch first. I think Herman Miller is overpriced - lots of advertising money. If you have a bad back, go look at a local 'Save the Back' store for some with good lumbar support. You can probably find something decent at an office warehouse store. If you want to spend $$$, go to an office furniture store. |

I have an Aeron chair in my office in LA and I'm not really a fan. Some people love them, but heavier people >200lbs in most cases aren't happy because they don't give you the support that you need. I have a bad back, so more than 8 hours/day in my Aeron and I have to go home because I can't take the pain any more.
I bought a Freedom Chair for my office here in Chicago and IMO it's waaaaaaaay better, but still not that great. For the money it seems very rickety and it's got this weird feature where it doesn't give you any resistance when you lean back.. it's supposed to help you strengthen your core muscles or something, but if I had known about it before I bought it, I wouldn't have. I think I'm going to go for a high-back leather chair next... maybe one of those converted lambo seats from racechairs.com.. LOL. |
