NY has some of the worst roads in the country. But it is common in the North East for roads to be shitty because of the temperature swings.
This may not be about potholes, but I was reading this the other day and it made me laugh... "The worst single bottleneck in the country this year was the same as last year's: New York's Cross-Bronx Expressway, which is congested for 94 hours per week on average, where it meets the Bronx River Parkway at exit 4B." Cross-Bronx Expressway is hell on earth. Check out this list from 08. I doubt much has changed since then. No city has had the money to fix anything. As shitty as it probobly would have been for the city, I was hoping that all of those trade shows that were threatening to NOT sign back up to McCormick because of the union labor rates, etc. wouldn't.... fucking freeman. I've set up at so many shows in LV/LA/Chi that I've got a real... real sour taste in my mouth over those guys. As some of you might know, I work in the POP (point of purchase) display industry. Every time there is a show there is an "awards" area where people set up their displays for judging. Naturally there are always electronics displays like XBOX/PS3/Bose, like you'd see at a Best Buy/Wal-Mart/Costco along with simple corrugate displays that sell things like pencils/office supplies/snacks (think Frito-Lay/Post-It), etc. Not a joke: A few years ago here in Chicago my buddy and I came in one afternoon (pre-show, but post exibit hall closing) to put some finishing touches on one of our displays that was in the awards section and we litterally rolled up on 4-5 Freeman who had pulled a bunch of food from some of the displays (doritos/emeral nuts/coca-cola) and were playing video games at the XBOX endcap getting their greasy/cheese coverd hands all over it... all the while probobly billing $75/hr per person to do it. Yet these are the people that are bitching about unfair wages. Last edited by Feyd; 12-10-2010 at 01:02 PM.. Reason: wack gramma yo! |

I'm an Industrial Designer by schooling. I was a designer at a POP company in NY for a few years right out of college, but GotTFO because it was super depressing and with my whole hating people attitude, I got tired of dealing with all of the fucking marketing douche bags that exist in the Consumer Goods arenas of corporate America. I'm now kind of a hybrid of designer/design engineer/production manager/general POP mercenary. I still get to utilize my degree, but now it's more of a DFM (design for manufacture) type of consulting that I do. We've got 4-5 designers and I look over their designs during the process to ensure that we can make everything look good and stay on budget. The designers like me quite a bit since I'm not your typical engineer (because at heart I'm still one of them) and it's been a good roll because it allows me to be sensitive to the designer's wishes, but at the same time allows me to not have to deal directly with the idiot clients. As far as manufacturing goes I don't personally physically manufacture anything, but I oversee all manufacturing with our US/Overseas vendors and make lots of trips to the manufacturers to ensure that things are getting built correctly/answer any questions they have/re-engineer things that are giving them problems, etc. It's a pretty substantial buy year over year with our gross sales ~$15-20mil so I stay pretty busy. That being said it's 12:30 and I'm still in my bathrobe. |
