We'd like to wish you all a Happy New Year! May all you hope and wish for in 2011 come true!
As 2010 comes to an end, there's no better time to look back through the past 365 days and recount the most important BMW models, developments, and news from the past year, as well as speculate what the new year will bring. BMW 1 SERIES
1 SERIES M COUPE One of the most anticipated cars on 1ADDICTS in 2010 was surely the 1-series M Coupe. The first few months of 2010 saw frenzied speculation and debate on whether there would be an M-variant of the 1-series Coupe, which culminated with BMW releasing the first 1M teaser video in July. As time went by, the hype increased via a series of teaser shots and videos, and also included a 1M prototype test drive contest. Thanks to M-Power.com and BMW, several BIMMERPOST members were able to personally test drive and report on the 1M prototype (their reviews were posted here). Finally, some weeks ago, BMW finally pulled the wraps and unveiled the 1-series M coupe and its technical details. It will make its debut at the Detroit NAIAS next week, and launch into the market in Spring 2011. 1 SERIES LCI (facelift) The other big announcement regarding the 1-series in 2010 was the reveal of the 2012 E82 coupe and the 2012 E88 convertible facelifts, which will both receive some styling changes. BMW 3 SERIES
335iS In 2010, the most important 3-series development discussed on E90POST was the 335iS. Powered by a tuned version of BMW's touted N54 motor and mated to the DCT transmission, the 335iS has proven to be a serious alternative to BMW's famous M3. E92/93 3 SERIES LCI 3 years after the E92/E93 3-series coupe and convertible was first released, BMW announced a facelift for both models. Among other things, modifications included revised head and tail lights, a wider kidney grill and the introduction of the N55 engine in the 335i. Compared to the N54, the N55 motor features one twin-scroll turbo (instead of two single turbos of the N54) and Valvetronic. BMW M3
M3 GTS M3POST members fawned over the newly introduced M3 GTS. Based on the highly praised E92 M3, BMW went out of their way to make a serious track tool. Its features include the S65 high-revving V8 increased to a capacity of 4.4l which is good for 450bhp, an adapted 7-speed DCT gearbox, coil overs suspension, and a roll cage. Weighing 75kg less than the E92 M3, the M3 GTS proved its track abilities and clocked a 7:48 at the Nürburgring. Yet, there was bad news for US enthusiasts as none of the some 130 units was available stateside. LIMITED EDITION FROZEN GRAY E92 M3 Making up for the lack of the GTS in the US market, BMW announced a limited edition E92 M3 in June. Exclusive to the US market 30 identical cars were built, all equipped with DCT transmission, and all painted in Frozen Gray. This car was sold out within minutes. M3 COMPETITION PACKAGE Concurrently with the E92 LCI, we saw the introduction of the Competition Package aka "ZCP" package for the E92 and E90 M3. It includes a lowered suspension, new wheels similar to the M3 GTS, and an adapted EDC mode. As usual, the ZCP has been immensely popular. Last not least, BMW announced performance parts for the M3, including an M Performance Exhaust. While the current M3 is still on sale, M3POST members are eagerly discussing the next generation M3 (F32) already. Speculation began when BMW insider Scott26 mentioned in August that the next M3 would feature a turbocharged engine, and this topic surely will keep going up until the next M3 will debut in 2013 or 2014. BMW X3
ALL NEW X3 One of the most important new model introductions for BMW in 2010 was the all new X3, internally called F25. The 2011 X3 has been universally praised as a vast improvement over the first generation X3 which it replaces. The first generation X3 sold 600,000 units worldwide, so the new improved X3 should see even more success in its model lifetime. The new X3 is produced in BMW's US plant in Spartanburg, SC. BMW X5
X5 LCI (facelift) In April, BMW introduced a facelift for the X5 containing styling changes and the engines previously found in the X6 (35i, 50i). It is meant to make sure the X5 success story continues up until the release of the next generation X5 in 2013. The X6 is due for a facelift in 2011. BMW 5 SERIES
5 SERIES SEDAN and TOURING The all new 2011 BMW 5-series ushered in a brand new 5POST.com site. BMW introduced both a F10 5-series sedan and a new F11 5-series touring model. BMW again appears to have built a winner with the F10, still comparing favorably against its direct competition. To the dismay of many US customers, BMW decided to not offer the F11 5 series Touring in the US. BMW 6 SERIES
CONCEPT GRAN COUPE BMW unveiled the 4-door coupe "Concept Gran Coupe in April and used it to provide a preview of the upcoming 6 series lineup. It's been extremely well received among BMW fans and customers around the globe, so it's no surprise that BMW is planning a production of this stunning "4 door coupe". CONCEPT 6 SERIES COUPE 6POST.com was launched with the introduction of concept 6 series coupe and and all new 6-series convertible. Starring at the 2010 Paris Motor Show in September, BMW debuted the the Concept 6-series coupe. It featured a toned version of the Gran coupe's styling, but remains attractive and allowed a glimpse at the layout of the intended production interior and exterior. Expect the 6 series coupe to launch in late 2011. 6 SERIES CONVERTIBLE After two concept cars, BMW pulled the wraps of the first out of three upcoming production models for the new 6 series - the all new 6 series Convertible. Contrary to many reports, this car did not end up with a hard top folding roof, but retained the already famous soft top sporting the flying buttress design introduced with first generation 6 series convertible. 2011 BMW OUTLOOK
NEW MODELS 2011 (You can follow our future BMW timeline here: http://www.bimmerpost.com/future-bmw) Now for the BMW outlook for 2011. Some news and introductions are for certain, but others are still up in the air or merely rumored. Let's start with the certain ones: 1 SERIES HATCHBACK We've brought you extensive coverage of the upcoming next generation 1 series hatchback, internally called the F20. Latest spy shots show that much of its camouflage has now come off, so we expect its first official intro pictures and information by June 2011. Its European market launch is scheduled for September 2011, yet it's uncertain if it will make it to the US market. M5 SEDAN 2011 will also be the year of the highly anticipated F10 M5. History is repeating itself and BMW will show the Concept M5 at the Geneva Motor Show in March (just as the E60 M5 was). Market launch is scheduled for the Fall of 2011 with the press release coming sometime shortly before. NEW 3 SERIES SEDAN On to BMW's most important and probably BIMMERPOST's most anticipated car - the next generation 3-series sedan. The E90 3 series has just entered its last year of production and the replacement new 3 series, internally called F30, will debut in Spring 2012. Following BMW's usual schedule of unveiling a car roughly 4 months before its market launch, we should see first official pictures and information on the F30 3 series in December 2011. BMW I / PROJECT I We're expecting BMW to continue building up the anticipation for their Mega City Vehicle and the sub brand used to promote it. BMW will officially announce the name of this sub brand in 2011. Besides, we expect to see more of the Vision Efficient Dynamics which is now rumored to be called the i8. CONCEPT CARS There's no doubt that BMW will show several concept cars in 2011, beyond the production ready Concept M5. Obviously there aren't any official details available yet, but rumors suggest BMW may show a Concept X4. Don't be surprised if a concept Z2 pops up sometime over the next year. And BMW's Mega City Vehice and/or the i8 might also be shown in some form or another. Best regards, south |

2010 was truly a fantastic year for me thanks in large part to the members of this forum. The Power of M trip to France was incredible. The hot laps in the M3 GTS were a thrill I will never forget!
I look forward to topping my success in 2010 armed with the amazing BMWs I sell, the avid enthusiasts of Bimmerpost, and continuing to support this great community. Happy 2011 to all! David M Aviles The ///M is for Motorsport
