BMW question...... RFTs??? + or -

I can understand some reasons why people hate Run-flats... But My back tires were going so I put some nittos on the back and it feels like the car is floating...?? My Dad was saying cus the side wall was thinner....

Also my when I change lanes and get on it hard it feels like I lose control and the car is not pointed straight... But Im holding the wheel straight.. Also the traction control light is NOT on so I know Im not sliding...

Every bump in the road at any speed feels like someone is yanking the steering wheel out of ur hand in the direction of the dip or pothole.

The Nittos are rated way better than the RFTs but I liked the feel of the RFTs... Especially at high speeds...

I don't feel safe going over 80mph in the car because it feels so out of control... Its SCARY!!!

Here is a pic of the new tires??? Any clues what I am expireancing???

Front tires are a lil warn (original RFTs) and the Back are the Nittos Brand new... HELP

It does not drive like the car I bought any more...

PS the last pic is what I have been looking at lately to calm down.... Haha... I love FL... (Crossing over the Skyway Bridge....)

I am by no means an expert on tires but is that really a good thing to keep the RFTs in the front while you put non-RFTs in the back?

I wouldn't put different tires on the car. I mean it's either all RFT or all non-RFT. Mix and matching is not always a good thing (especially in cars). On a personal note, I do think that RFT handle better than non-RFT. I'm gonna go back to RFT after these non-RF wear out. The handling just isn't as good as the stock RF (feedback was much better).

Maybe its the lack of the extra weight. I would imagine you would feel it if you mix and match.

What non-rfts are you running?

I like the feel of the RFTs too.. The car feels tighter and not floaty...

The dilemma Im having is if I put all the regular tires on the car I have to stick to regular tires for at least a 1 year... (I only drive 15 ta 20k miles a year)... And if I have to drive with this floating feel for a year that would suck....

Thanks for the INFO guys.. I hope more people jump on here so I came see what they think...

you probably should not run rf on front and non-rf in the rear.

Also, I found out when going with cheaper Toyo tires (thin sidewall) that my handling suffered big time. I have since gone with GY F1's, and the improvement is leaps and bounds above the Toyo tires.

I can not speak about the Nitto's, but I will be sticking to more major tire brands in the future (GY, michelin, bridgestone, continental, etc.)

Don't mix brands of tires, that's not smart. Tread patterns are different for specific reasons. All brands and tread patterns have different characteristics. You can mix tires of the same brand with no problems (like when your rears wear out before the fronts, etc..) If you destroy a tire (road damage) then you really should replace a pair instead of buying just one.

Your Dad needs an education, sorry.

You can run non-RFTs (providing they're all the same tire) but bear in mind that the current BMW chassis was designed with RFTs in mind. There is always the possibility that you could somewhat compromise the integrity of the chassis. However, from experience many owners have replaced (all 4) RFTs with conventional tires without any issues (and in fact, have felt improved performance.)

Thanks... My Dad is a retired Federal Agent... He knows something about everything (he knew it might be bad but was not sure. Also why waste another $500 on tires if I might not need it yet) so him and I took the car back and we are returning the nittos and putting the RFTs back on... (new tires)

Thanks for the info the car feels WAY to FLOATY.. Not even the same car....

Im going to get the wheels powder coated black soon so I hope there is nothing wrong with the car because is has been handleing very oddly even before the tires were changed.
