Now here's a juicy rumor we can get excited about: According to the crew over at Automobile, Ford may be considering another shot at the legendary Ford GT. The news comes courtesy of Derrick Kuzak, Ford's head of global product development. After being questioned about the possibility of a GT successor, Kuzak chose his words very carefully by admitting that there are certain things in the four-year product plan that the company isn't comfortable with discussing. While that's not an out-and-out confirmation that the Blue Oval wants to see another mid-engine, high-horsepower machine in its stable, the overly diplomatic response does indicate that the thought may have crossed more than a few minds in Dearborn.

Is this a thin thread to cling to? Absolutely, but the talking heads of the industry typically site pesky issues like a vehicle's high expense and looming CAFE standards as perfect reasons against building a new halo car. Considering that none of that rhetoric showed up this time around and the fact that we've heard rumors about a hybrid GT successor, it wouldn't seem to be too much of a stretch to think that we just might see a new version of the car in a few short years. Consider our fingers crossed.

updated GT90 maybe, it is the natural evolution ford envision for the GT brand.
they also have the Shelby GR1 one of two "Production ready" concepts ford had back in 06.

As good as the original 5.4 modular engine was I think a beefed up, stroked and poked version of the new 5.0 would be a good start. Maybe direct injection. Adding a newer twin screw should excede the earlier model.

Ecoboost 5.0L V8 anyone? I'd think a TT 5.0 would be able to make well into the 500's in HP. Ford just needs to work on making a very lightweight car to improve the efficiency and power/weight ratio like all the italian companies are focusing on now.

The FRPP S/C kits already out make well north of that (one is 525, the other 624). And that's without lowering compression or strengthening the internals or any of that stuff....

Oh yeah, forgot about that. With Ford's reputation of building FI engines that can handle huge power, making the power reliably should be the easy part. The 4.6L '03 Cobra engine and 5.4L GT engine have both taken over 1000whp on stock internals. I have plenty of faith in Ford that they can build an exotic killer for a decent price.

Besides, how awesome would an ecoboost V8 be? Just look at the modability of the BMW TT engines. Throw a tune on this new supercar and you'd make huge power with minimal mods.
