I got used to it and got tired of it. Honing, stropping, etc. just became a PITA. I rather just toss a blade every few shaves and call it a day. I think its time to buy a new razor. Pretty sure I bent the bar on my Merkur.

lol
Think its from packing and whatnot. Just on one side of the razor. Probably from just packing it. I've got probably 6 or 7 vintage razors. But I love my HD. I'll have to buy a new one. Oh well. Probably the same price as a few of those new blade cartridges. |

I use a beard trimmer on the closest setting because I don't care for a clean shave. It never cuts me and saves me the absurd expense of gels and replacement blades.

I used to go for all this "Our new razor has not 30, not 40 but FIFTY blades. It will shave better than the old razor with 49 blades!!!" bullshit. More blades means thinner metal, that gets dull very very fast. After 1 shave Gillette Fusion becomes absolutely unusable for me.
I switched back to the "old" Gillette Mach3 and those things last for over a month (shave 3-4 times a week). As far as after shave and shaving cream, my GF works for Clinique, so she brings me all kinds of their natural products. I really like that stuff. http://www.clinique.com/cms/product/supercat/mens.tmpl M Shave Aloe Gel is pretty awesome
