I love all these gun law bullshit conversations that the Americans always talk about after something like this happens. These people are Muslim terrorists. Do you really think that changing gun laws will change their behavior? Come on...

However, a major problem isn't the lack of gun laws prevented nut jobs (medically and/or criminally) from getting firearms or having access to them but the enforcement of the current laws. Yeah, there's that argument again, but it is true. The current reporting system to add the names of felons, mental cases, etc... is broken since an alarming # of departments simply do not report in to add to/update the 'block list'. The whole intent of the list is to flag people when the NCIS check is done. If that list isn't up to date then people that shouldn't be able to purchase will obviously be able to purchase. Straw purchases, which sounds like was at least partly the case in the SB attack, are another issue. You don't read many stories about CCW people preventing crimes because it doesn't make major news outlets very much. It kind of goes against the narrative that is typically pushed. It certainly does happen, though. When Chicago passed CCW, there was, quite quickly, an incident where someone (I think on the South side) prevented himself from being a statistic (it was some old guy). It didn't make the major news outlets, but made it into the small local paper. Sat morning talk show on TV right now....someone (anti) asking why anyone needs 1000 rounds of any ammunition and people are allowed to buy guns online. What he, and most, don't realize is that the firearm or serialized components are not sent directly to the purchaser. It has to be shipped to someone with a Federal Firearm License (FFL). Those are typically gun shops or people in the business of selling/transferring firearms. The FFL is then responsible for the paperwork that is required by law to complete the purchase. In the case of my state, a NCIS check is still completed and any associated 'cooling off' period still applies. In the end, it is no different than buying something directly from a gun shop. Still, though, if the NCIS database isn't updated because departments around the country are not even attempting to update it....that can have repucussions. As for 1000 round of ammunition....why do you shop at CostCo or Sam's club or the like? It is cheaper to buy in bulk. When going to the range, firing off a few hundred rounds is not uncommon. Personally, I'm for closing the gun show loophole and doing NCIS checks for 3rd party purchases. If individual FFLs were done away with and it was left to the gun shops only, I'd be fine with that, too. Added training for CCW isn't a bad thing either. Banning more firearms or components? That will just hamper the law abiding citizen and still won't prevent a crazy person or terrorist. Crazy people wanting to do bad things will find a way to do bad things regardless. They have already made the conscious decision to break the law. In some respect, we are lucky that the nut jobs of recent years (I won't acknowledge them by name) haven't been opting more for molotov cocktails or other nasty devices made of common materials that are easily portable (I consider pressure cookers to be large) or sniper style attacks.

Exactly. You don't buy a gun online and have amazon drop it off. It has to go to a licensed dealer who does the background check the same way you get one from him. He also charges a fee to do it. The current reporting system does do criminal background checks but doesn't do psychological. That's the problem. The psychological is not required and 95% is not reported so crazies can get guns more easily than someone with a felony dui. Sad but true.

We need the federal database to also include psychological problems as well as felonies and to require psychiatrists to report dangerous conditions. They resist this with Democrat support citing people will be hesitant to get help if they do. Total bs. If this list is only accessible by law enforcement and licensed dealers , and dealers only get a yes or no answer, not why, then to bad, get it done. The fear the Democrats have is it will be accessed for other reasons. Jobs, housing, etc. Just make that illegal. Problem solved. Until we do this look for crazies to continue their senseless rampages.

And I hate the term "Gunshow Loophole". There is no such thing. Gun shows do not have a loophole. They have two types of vendors. The dealer, who does the same checks as if he was at his shop, and the private seller, who sells just like he would anywhere. The so called loophole applies to these private sales. Private sellers go to gun shows because there are more buyers there. They otherwise sell through craigslist, to friends via word of mouth, on Internet forums, etc. There is nothing that makes a gun show special for private sales. If you want to be correct, say private sale loophole. The Gunshow gets a black eye for nothing and they ate terrific for bargains and comparison shopping. If you want to stop the "gunshow" loophole, require private sales/transfers to undergo a federal background check, which as of now they aren't.

The FBI took 2 days to find her post??? And it was under a different name? What did the post say, verbatim? I really want to see this post. I didn't think I was a conspiracy theorist, but I'm being fitted tomorrow for my tin hat.
And I REALLY hate to speak poorly of the dead, but I'm guessing that Syed and Nicholas had way more than "friendly discussions," as his wife puts it, about religion. Nicholas was at least as much of a religious radical when you look at his FB page. Zionism is personalized to be Tzionism, in line with his name? |

I posed this possibility with my wife yesterday. Seems like it plays into the hands of our govt in order to spread fear. Not hard to fake for them either.

I just love how politicians and media personnel so quickly claim that mass killings don't happen anywhere else in the world. Then they look for a scapegoat not a solution to the problem. It's all just posturing and trying to appeal to mass sentiment.

So now the FBI is saying both had been radicalized for some time, but in the same breath say they don't know how or for how long.
How do you know they'd been radicalized for some time, if you don't know how long??? I might keep that tinfoil fitting apt. tomorrow. |

No. That was my point. I was saying that it was easy to understand why they didn't know how long they had been radicalized, but knew it wasa long time. I was using the age thing as an analogy.

More anti 2nd talks, most of American will buy more. Look at the stats.
BTW congrats on 186k nics background check on black friday. Less anti guns talks, people tend to buy less. Btw. I am sure those anti gun people probably have some kinda record who can't own one. I bet... LOL |

My issue is the sheer manpower the FBI is throwing at this investigation, and they make a BS statement like that. It makes them look incredibly stoopid This is the best of American investigation?????
