It's not getting any prettier or less bulky looking. I assume it will be heavier than the C7, so 400 hp isn't going to be all that impressive and even a 500hp hybrid is unlikely to be any faster than a C7 Stingray.

Okay, I had the FRS weight wrong in my head, thought it was only a touch under 2,900. And given that the C7 packed on some weight compared to the C6, there's a chance the Supra comes in close to the C7 weight, but history doesn't support it being lighter or having the performance of the Corvette. I'm happy to be wrong here.

We'll call it a win if it's lighter than the MkIV. But given larger wheels, tires, eleventy billion airbags and all the current safety gear, I'll be pleasantly surprised if that happens.

In this interview with EVO Tada-San hints about the weight. Time will time if its true or just made up BS.

I'd be shocked if the new 6 cylinder Z4/Supra is lighter than a C7 Stingray. People seem to underestimate the amount of lightweight tech that goes into the Corvette, which includes a full aluminum chassis/front and rear subframes/upper and lower control arms, carbon fiber hood and roof panel, composite body panels everywhere else and magnesium seat frames. Not to mention the fact that the LT1 V8 is very compact and lacks the turbo/intercooler hardware that are needed on turbo I6 powertrains. FYI the C7 Stingray weighs less than a 4 cylinder 230i...

History shows the Supra embarrassed the corvette in its day. The last Supra was from 3100 to 3450lbs. c4 3239 c5 3246 c7 3,347 lb (Base) 3,444 lb (Z51) 3,523 lb (Z06) Guess you should be ecstatic. |
