Well why do you think everyone's screaming recession

Companies won't reverse pricing out of the goodness of their heart. We need to also see a decline in demand. That's why it's a balancing act.

You can thank Avian flu for that. 50,000,000 birds died from, or were culled because of. I own a breakfast restaurant. We go through a LOT of eggs. I'm told we can expect a little relief after the new year. What was $15/case 6 months ago is now $60/case. Believe me when I tell you, I feel your pain.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but manual transmission cars are no longer important to me. My opinion is the modern ATs are so good, there is no compelling reason for me to get a car with an MT ever again.

Interesting. No idea that was the case!

I'm sort of in the opposite side of this... I've owned nothing but automatic cars - and my G80 on order is going to be a 6MT. The A/T G80 is MUCH faster and the zf 8spd is an incredible transmission, but I feel like we're at this weird point where power and speed are seeing significantly diminishing returns in terms of fun.

This brings me to my biggest unpopular opinion of probably the last 5 years:

We are at a point where more power and speed is not synonymous with more fun to drive. It gets old after a while. Everyone comparing 0-60 or 1/4 mile times is missing the point of driving to begin with - which is, for enthusiasts, supposed to be fun. If all we do is argue about spreadsheet numbers, that's exactly what automakers will give us - dull, soulless, and completely numb cars which are blisteringly quick in a straight line (i.e. EVs).

All the best to you with your upcoming G80 with MT. I'm pretty sure I could reverse my unpopular opinion with a car like that!

Regarding your comment on power and 1/4 mile times, I couldn't agree more. Some of my favorite cars to drive have been low-horsepower cars, starting with my first BMW experience, my brother's early '70s 2002 with all of 100 hp. It was an absolute blast to drive. I was lusting for a BMW of my own from that point on. My first one was a new '88 528e with 125 hp with a 5 speed MT. For all around fun to drive, it might be my favorite. I've love my BMW V8s in the two 5ers I've owned, but the horsepower and torque of those cars were lost on me; so much so that I when to a F30 328 with 1/2 the cylinders and I love it as much after 9 years as the day I picked it up in Munich. My wife has a G05 with the B58. Now that amazing B58 inline 6 is a perfect compromise between my 328 wind up toy and the over-the-top power of the high-horsepower cars available to day.

To regurgitate what you said, I NEVER thought of sportscars as outright speed but ALWAYS in terms of handling. Ppl who think otherwise might as well just strap on a rocket and call it the day.

Yeah... just seems the general population only cares for straight-line speed (probably because it's an easy metric to quantify as opposed to more subjective and nuanced ones like chassis/steering feel and handling). Hence I'm sad to say that it's an unpopular opinion.

I've always wondered why 0-60 times were so relevant ...?

It's because people are lazy and it's an easy metric to compare. So that's what everyone (especially non-enthusiasts) focus on.

I think it's leftover from the days when the difference in 0-60 between, say, a 6 cylinder Chevy Nova and a 396 Camaro was probably 10 seconds. These days, with soccer moms hauling kids in vans with no less than 300 HP, it really isn't that significant of a metric.

Prime rib is overrated. Don't get me wrong, prime rib is tasty but there are so many other type of beef to eat and that are more satisfying to cook. I don't understand why prime rib is put on such a high pedestal as this elegant thing to have at a holiday meal. Is it simply the production of having a giant roast on the table for the host to carve in front of guests?

Amen. I have a 12 pack of filet medallions in my freezer right now. Those things are at risk of being consumed soon. Going to do some with a bleu cheese topping, some with a crusted parmesan, and maybe a horseradish sauce too. Super yummy.

You should be punished by shipping me a couple of medallions via overnight express. I thought ppl are supposed to be more kind and thoughtful during the holidays

Is prime rib still a thing? I can't even remember the last time I had prime rib or saw prime rib on any menu.

'Rocky' is the only decent movie Sylvester Stallone ever made.

I swore off any and all Stallone movies after suffering through 'Cliffhanger'. I must have been bored the other night and watched 'Rambo: Last Blood'. It was horrible.
