new CHRA being installed

Adam getting all hot and bothered testing how well the new CHRA spins. Its MUCH MUCH smoother, easier, and quieter than the old one I traded in. Put a little oil inside before doing this but regardless.....I can only imagine how fast this is spinning when the engine is breathing in it.

I got around to installing the underpanel i picked up from motion motorsports a few weeks ago.

pretty easy install. On the TT stg II I had a few hangups w this underpanel but overall install was a success.

packaging was good, parts were all there and looked/felt like high quality/strong parts

and the panel, its a thick yet light cut of aluminum that is very rigid.....precision cut and drilled.

The before under shot of my car

some of the newest hardware to finds it way on the car

new chargepiping w Tial BOV by MA motorsports here in Baltimore, bunch of good guys there

TRM exhaust crank case check valve......has worked great so far!

My helpers holding the underpanel in place after removing the factory craptastic plastic porkchop things.......this underpanel fit perfect w the OEM front bumper and lip.

I was very happy to find that all my charge piping and the BOV cleared the panel and didnt require any triming.

HOWEVER the charge piping kept me from installing the 2 large brackets which give this underpanel even more strength. After speaking with Matt at Motion I decided to go ahead and install it anyway, it turned out to be really rigid even without those supports.

It ties into the fender liners and really helps solidify their positioning much better.

I'm happy with the product.

you can see from the photos that if anything this underpanel increases ground clearance by getting rid of the pork chop thingies.

I am hoping this will help a bit with my cooling issues and plan on adding baffling and weather stripping to seal it up more forcing more air into the radiator.

the drive home however didnt really reveal anything, other than 2nd gear is a hoot for drifting and the new CHRA is butter smooth :evil2

235's up front, not THAT huge at all.......ultra wide angle tends to stretch things.

hint: dont take pics of a girl with it if you want to any later.

Ahh, that makes sense. The cameras that are used by realtors to make small rooms look bigger perhaps?

finally videos!!!

I found the issue thats been plaguing me for the past year, my ceramic Magnaflow cat was crushed on the outside causing the ceramic catalyst to splinter into many pieces ruining its flow ability. Chocked the engine out up top as you will see from dyno graphs I'll post in a bit.

F cats!!!

==============

after removing the cat the car ran like a champ. Low boost on the wastegate spring pulled smooth and just built HP to redline. High boost pulled harder but didnt have the same fierce pull at higher RPMs. You'll see why.

======================

Always wanted a few pics of my car from the outside, now that it seems to be running happy I wanted to give it a shot.

Videos dont represent the volume of the exhaust, its a bit louder than these videos would lead you to believe.

================

at MIR today for a great drag racing rental. Took a break during a 30 minute cleanup session on the track to make some videos on the service road.

sorry tires......ive been nice until now.

watch in 720p

Burnout

Flyby.....I angered the dogs

Attempted launch

and what the exhaust looks like

Ok so I finally got dyno proof that my car is indeed running much much better since removing that stupid clogged cat.

cp-e in Beltsville has an amazing facility full of top notch robotic machinery and rapid prototype machines to churn out top notch parts for BMW's, Mazda's, and others.

They also have a $100k Mustang dyno with the most ridiculous fan setup ive ever seen.......video's and photos cant do these fans justic. They deliver honest 65mph winds with extremely similar volume of air to the open road.

Photos from yesterday evening

Finally strapped down, an process that took almost an hour and a half. Reason for that is at the bottom of this post.

Time for action

================================================== ====================================

Here is my low boost dyno from before at MaxPsi.

and from today

this is on cpe's awesome Mustang Dyno, I have some great pics of their facility but cant get my 16gig sd card to read on my gf's older laptop

for reference, a stock 335 will dyno around 220-230 whp from what I was told. Typical dynojet for the same car will be 270-280whp.

dyno operator was very impressed w the power on low boost on this dyno.

car was at 347whp on low boost. For reference a modded GTR hit 382awhp on the same dyno. I believe the car has ~400whp on higher boost on this dyno in it with the current setup. Not sure what that will mean on a dynojet. It will be quick though, only weight 3195lbs w a 3/4 tank of gas.

please note runs were done til he hit the rev limiter......rpm scaling was off.

and video of the run

and higher boost

before at MaxPsi.......a terrible looking dyno chart even after NIckG pulled out all the timing in the trouble zone.

and today. Dips up top and then follows the low boost graph. Dyno operator who is also a tuner for cpe said it looks like timing is heavily reduced up top even before I told him NickG did that. Hope thats the case and all power will be back once ECU is reflashed w a standard map.

so much better than before. Need to play with boost controller to keep boost up in higher rpms....dropping almost 1.5psi throughout the rev band. the 35r at this psi should have NO problems with keeping boost steady or even slightly growing to redline.

low and high on same graph

video of high boost

all in all a good dyno evening though we did snap my vband clamp off the mid pipe getting it on the dyno.....a new clamp and 2x4's solved that issue lol.

car sounded mean as hell with an open exhaust though.

Will pull the ECU and send to NickG tomorrow

got the ECU back w the proper tune and the car rips to redline, feels great!

will get on a dyno in the next week or so I hope.

Pulled the turbo off the car (what a PITA) to have the exhaust housing gasket matched. Probably wont make any difference at all but who knows.

also relocated the Aquamist flow control to have a shorter run to the injector

Hey all

I've started putting more time into detailing cars recently, just have too much fun with it not to do it more.

I was working on my car yesterday afternoon. the front end of the car was resprayed 2 summers ago when I hit a damned deer. Since then the orange peel left by body shop has been a thorn in my side.

NO MORE!

I finally decided to wetsand the peel out and polish.

Anyone living in the Maryland area feel free to shoot me a PM if you have any interest in detailing services from maintenance washes to full paint correction

wish I had brought my good camera for this, but the EVO4g actually does pretty good.

---------------------------------------------------

A reflection on my hood when I started, you can see it simply not a crisp, clear reflection. damned orange peel

Test section after wetsanding. Wiped clean and dried to see what the sanding has done.

Orange peel still evident on the outside of my sanding area.

Fully sanded down, smooth, no peel

Buffed the 2000 grit sanding marks out w M105, 2 passes and got this

much much better!!! I was so excited to see this result

side by side

Now the real work begins. Entire hood and front fenders need the same treatment

Sanded down, did some more touch up sanding after this photo

1/4 polished w M105

me hard at work, what a workout. I need an orbital. Flex will be on order soon I think.

Hood polished out w M105

Fender sanded

Fender polished

Then repolished w a finer polish to really bring out the depth and clarity

followed up w 2 coats of JetSeal applied w black pad.

gave 20 minutes for each coat to cure, spent that time detailing the interior.

Test pot of Dodo Juice, love this stuff. So easy to apply and remove, depth is incredible and beading it fantastic.

Done!

Now thats some clarity baby!! (actually a bit out of focus, thanks phone)

outside in the evening light, so good. Washed the rest of the car. Will polish to get rid of RIDS after 2 years of washing since last polish then give it the seal/wax.

Awesome work, as usual!

I've never had the balls to wet sand my paint.
