So sweet!!

Pets should be considered family, imo. You wouldn't just leave your family. I understand if you have military orders or what not, but then again you would think a family member would step in and foster. I guess not everyone thinks the way I do.

People are terrible.

We stayed during Katrina because we weren't going to leave our horses behind. The number of people down here who left their pets and evacuated makes me sick. I'm not saying this is the case, but it might as well be.

Forgot to ask, this dog is in Louisiana, right? I just assumed it was, but I want to make sure.

Omg how adorable! People are the absolute worst. About 2 years ago around Christmas I lost my lab I had for almost 13 years and it crushed me. How can someone have a dog for 9 years and just abandon it

That's fricking heartless if so. Poor dog. Hope he gets better owners next time around, for his / her last few years.
I'm not sure of the whole story. When Sara mentioned she was looking for an older lab I reached out to her & told her I would contact the adoption coordinator I worked with to adopt Luca. He text me last night and asked if she was still looking. He said he came across this lab whose family is giving up on him because they're moving. I don't have anymore details as of yet on what's going on.

Agreed. I grew up on a farm and you learn early that life can be cheap at times, but once you have that bond it is hard to imagine just walking away.

Some spend thousands trying to squeeze another year out of a pet (guilty) and some will leave them in a 200 degree car while they go get ice cream. Go figure.

As a crusty old coworker used to tell me weekly - "Ain't nothin worse than people". #spoton

I'm 22 years into ownership of a 29 year old horse. I can't imagine just walking away from her. I'll probably be one of those who spends whatever it takes to keep her here with me, but she's "healthy as a horse" for the time being. I can't imagine my life without her. Don't even want to think about it.

It's the worse part of pet ownership, but it always comes. Well, unless you get a turtle or parrot I guess. I've buried a many over the years (never had a horse though) but it's better than not having them at all.

It is tough. I took in my dads dog when he died in 2018. He was 12 then and a larger dog that lived outside his entire life. I figured 6-12 month tops and I would not get that attached. Nope. He turned 15 last Monday and has apparently decided to live forever as he seem as good (if not better) than when I brought him home.

He has adapted to couch life well........ =)

Lol. This isn't the most recent photo so the nails have been clipped since then.
Fortunately he's not too bad with the clipping.

I thought the same with my friend's senior arabian. Friend was moving to Alabama and I offered to take her if she'd give her to me for free. Horse was lame, skinny, and very old. This was in 2007. I thought maybe 1-2 years I'd get out of her. I had her 8 years before I put her down in 2015 at the age of 34. Bawled my eyes out, but now she's buried under her favorite oak tree and I like to think she's happily running again in Heaven's pastures.

Yes this kind of crap happens all the time and it's infuriating! People like that do not deserve to own a dog, or any animal for that matter.

Is that to Sara, indeed? You might consider using quotation marks when quoting.

It's all right you love your horse! But still it reminds me of (reportedly) a cowboys' saying: "Don't name your horse 'cause you never know when you'll (have to) eat it.".

They derived a movie from this kind of a story.

That's right. It's a real, live Velveteen rabbit.
You don't see these everyday either, except for children's storybooks. He's a sweetheart too. Believe it or not he was a rescue.

No, it wasn't at Sara. It was me saying the owners are just like see ya later. I should have had a comma instead of a period but I was multi-tasking and not paying attention.

Regarding adopting a pet, it should be for the life of the pet. Except for certain situations, like you've lost your home and have nowhere to keep the pet, or you're sick and can't take care of the pet anymore. It should be a forever home for the animal, unless it becomes impossible.

I think I'm a 'godparent' to three dogs at the moment.
Rocky (top) is a friend's dog that we took in when he got divorced & lost his job.
We had to give Rock back after a year or so....
We took care of Noodles often because of a drug problem induced divorce. He was a trooper.

Edit: let's focus on what's important and that's trying to possibly find this guy a new home.
