Perhaps I'm left-ice cold by BMW today because my perception is that the M concept used to represent a viable, more practical alternative to Porsche. Given that criteria, whether right or wrong, the answer is clear.

BMW M has never, in my opinion, been a competitor of Porsche and not really an alternative. M Division was started as a way to homologate their race cars. My expectations haven't changed. An M is the highest performance version is the model wearing the badge. That hasn't changed. M4 is still highest performance 4-series, M3 is highest performance 3-series. etc., etc.

Off topic question but I have often wondered myself.
If you would trade for a Porsche,what model/configuration at the M4 msrp that you currently drive would it be?

Hmmm.

Porsche is the number one competitor for the last gen E9x M3, per BMW.

Maybe you meant the M4 is the highest performing 4-series, similar to the Prius Sport being the highest performing Prius?

Not a fake badge, but man was this non-M visually over-done. Looked original silverstone with some RR style two tone and Porsche style 335i badge in the center of the trunk.
