Ford Offers free driver training to Shelby GT500 owners

It's about time!

https://driving.ca/ford/shelby-gt500...-gt500-owners/

If you buy a Shelby Mustang GT500, it’s understood you love speed. With 760 horsepower on tap from the 5.2-litre supercharged V8, it’s sure to be a handful.

Perhaps too much of a handful for most of the folks who might put one in their garage, we dare say, but Ford has a plan to fix that.

Buyers of the 2020 GT500 will receive a free driving instruction course at Ford’s Performance Racing School at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina.

The course will feature road course and drag strip training, and drivers will be taught about cornering, braking, launching and using the vehicle’s various drive modes to their fullest extent.

Ford will provide the vehicles, so owners won’t need to worry about bringing their own; they will have to find a way to the track by themselves, however.

“With its supercar-level powertrain, the all-new Shelby GT500 takes Mustang to a performance level once reserved only for exotics,” said Dave Pericak, Ford director of enterprise product line management.

“We’ve set a new standard among American performance cars with our most powerful street-legal V8 to date, plus the quickest-shifting transmission ever in a Mustang for all-out precision and speed.”

Pericak calls the course, GT500 Track Attack, “absolutely essential in helping owners understand how to get the most out of their cars.”

Along with the GT500 training, there will also be a second day of pure driving, if owners wish to indulge themselves with a base model Mustang GT.

It really is.

The ability of someone with a 1 day old drivers license to purchase and operate a 500, 600, or 700+ HP car is absolutely insane. This type of training should be mandatory.

I was a evil to my father, I stole his car 420 Sel Merc consistently @ 13,14, took chances on the road Every night with friends and girls going on joy rides/doing crazy shit, beaches and far out after party's

Dad never got mad at me just disappointed, told me if I get caught I will be arrested, he will leave me in for days without regret, I still did it, I just loved driving and hooking up with plastic girls every week, bad choices but it was fun

I wanted my son to be different:
I got him a (legal permit) in Kansas at the age of 14, since September we took work trips to KC 5 times, he has almost 30 hours behind the wheel in KANSAS, maybe 20 in big parking lots (after hours) here in Massachusetts and less than 10'ish hours on back roads in Maine it's all about experience and time behind the wheel IMO

Apple falls far from the tree, my josh is a gentleman, he loves Bmw he loves the history and respects cars, already knows how drive manual, helps that he's 5.9" 175 lbs since 13

When he's 16 he will have over 250 behind the wheel, I will have 1% less chance of heart attack when he takes the M2 out

I do 50k miles a year, driving for over half my life and I CANT control most fast cars without the safety systems on (cream puff)

Edit: bmw teen drivers program is 16+ in both SC and Cali, I would take him in a heart beat if he was allowed, 21 more months to go

Will Team O’Neil Rally School in NH take him at this age? Would be a great way to learn car control.
