If you think it is delusional to think that Russell is better than Bottas after the Sakhir race last year, there is a possibility your opinion is right, EVEN if Fernando Alonso thinks he is the best of the new drivers. He only won two WDC's, beating Michael Shumacher so no big deal!

No, I just don't think Bottas is a #1...If I were Toto I'd take a chance on a young gun. MAYBE keep Bottas as an experienced driver to compare cars as regulations change for 2022.

Bottas is definitely not #1. Toto might want to keep him though, simply because he had a hard time managing Lewis and Nico when Nico won the championship and he does not want to take a chance it can happen again, specially given Lewis has a say so on who is going to be paired with him.

I was taking HAM out of the equation. I'm saying Bottas isn't a #1 driver!

I'm not a rear view mirror type of guy and don't care about historical performance. Bottas isn't a #1 and believe several drivers would out perform him should HAM retire.

If I were a rear view mirror guy Kimi was a phenomenal driver in the early years. He would have several more WDCs in the bag if his McLaren didn't fall apart constantly while completing with real drivers like Schumacher and ALO. As it is Kimi holds his own as a 41 year old driver basically competing for a hobby.

Its a garbage right wing rag with no interest in journalistic integrity.

Bottas certainly has good single lap speed but he rarely has the same race pace as LH.
Yet its true that if he didn't have Hamilton as his team mate he would likely have won at least a couple of DWCs with a less skilled team mate.

I think you are being a bit harsh on Leclerc who put in some incredible performances in a really average Ferrari.
Also Russell..not really a fan of him but he did at least match Bottas in his one outing in the Merc...that one race doesn't mean he is the next big thing but he didn't fall on his face which has to count for something.

What I meant was that when hammy has accumulated enough points then BOT would be let off the leash in terms of not having any ''sensor issues'' and so forth.
With Russ do you think he would agree to be hammy's lap dog? Toto cannot make a contract in such a way on paper to influence the result of a championship as against the sporting code in F1.
The only way this can be done is privately off the record with a 'bonus' at the end if the other driver behaves himself.
It's why we have seen frustration build in BOT steadily and I'm starting to believe he ''could'' go faster and beat hammy if he wanted to. The fact that he has fell back with tyre warming issues on occasions just doesn't add up with this not affecting hammy that much.
It's why he has been pencil marked allegedly for dismissal later by a press comment because of his growing frustration and has simply outgrown his use in the Petronas Hamilton Merc team.

You’re one of the most reasonable people here. I can agree with most of this, save the LeClerc stuff. I just don’t like the guy.
