Thank you!

Someone who agrees with me!

I think my x5m has 305/315 staggered setup and it’s very similar weight.

I put my money on this car pulling like a freight train out of the box.

And I love my F90 but…. New is new. Has anyone here preferred the older gen m5 to the new gen (not considering financial situations)

Let’s wait and see

You lost us all when you compared it to a 911

And this is the best selling generation M3 .. so try again

I bet that BMW did all they possibly could to hide its weight and retain driving dynamics. It’s half the ton though. It was extremely hard task. It will pull that’s for sure, as long as hybrid system remains charged. Current M5 was considered handsome car from the get go. It was much better than it’s predecessor even on paper in every aspect except for transmission for some. This one though… check the size of this thread already.

Curious in the sense of the product that BMW M is bringing to market and see the reality of how receptive folks are to it.

Look wise I'm more on board with it than I have been for the G8x, love the driving characteristics of the G8x platform so let's see how this model fairs once its out.

For those that say BMW M is dead, profit wise (which is what looks to be important to them), they're doing quite fine. We were all up in arms a few years ago with the G8x leaks about the grille before even driving them. Yet look at how well its been selling in the past three or so years.

Worst case if the G90 somehow doesn't grab interest of potential buyers and doesn't move then I certainly wouldn't mind one with XM discounts but that's wishful thinking.
This might happen actually. In AUS, when XMs were launched, it was priced around $400 to $450k competing with the G wagon (what were they &#129300. Not many if not none were sold. Now they are being sold for $270k as dealers want them out! Obviously M5s won’t be that terrible but relatively may happen.

I had a 14 M5 and a 20 M5. I really enjoyed them. I have a gut feeling this G90 M5 is not going to sell well. What do you guys think?

Overall, agree with you on the sentiments of new generations. This time it’s quite different IMO. Massive changes. Let’s see what happens and post in this thread in a few months / years. Haha

Agree with you that new is new but sometimes people prefer the old model. For example still I believe Corvette C6 is much nicer and better than Corvette C7.
Comparing G90 M5 with F90 M5, 1000 lb difference mean G90 M5 is not a track car at all while F90 M5 is a track car ...
I can't even say G90 M5 is a true sport car but let's see how dynamic it is when is out.

I won’t comment on vettes- and that’s not my territory

Next- regardless of some people’s experiences or stats- I don’t consider an m5 a car I’d take on a track. It’s a car I can enjoy a drive home from work from- reflect on my struggles and triumphs, listen to the exhaust, and step on the gas when I want to grin. To each their own

Absolutely none of us have driven, seen, or sat in the G90. So it’s an argument that falls on deaf ears and purely opinions.

Sure. Sounds heavy. Sure, the numbers might make us scoff. But after we drive it, put exhaust on it, listen to the sound system, rip it- all of this is purely speculation.
Just my.02

I consider a gt3 as a track car for the road.
I have 2 child seats and 4 cardboard boxes of work material in my trunk, 2 cases of sunglasses and some scratch offs in the door cards.

This is my daily. As it is for the(if I could throw a dart blind folded) the other 95% of owners.

(Friendly debate btw. Don’t shoot)

When the e60 dropped- I would’ve become a follower of any religion that followed it or worshiped it. When the F10 platform was announced- I was sad (on paper) and swore I’d never want one

And then I drove one and actively searched for one over the E60.

It’s a cyclical thing

The point I’ve said for 6 months now- “I’ll say it’s over when the fat lady shows herself” and I’ll probably still want to take her home

Great minds think alike

I’m just ranting on everyone’s crying on the negativity of a new m5 after a couple tequilas.

Let me babble and buy me another

Exactly this. If I had a dime for every owner who bitched about the weight of M cars now when 99.99999999999% of those people either 1) don't own them, 2) will never own them, 3) own them and will never track them or 4) own them and will never use them to where you will even know what the difference is weight-wise (and no, your little "twisties" down the road don't count ). The most "turning radius" most of these people experience is merging onto the interstate. I use my car to haul my kids, haul boxes, get groceries, etc. If you want a dedicated track car or car that is supposed to behave like a track car....get a GT3.

I could care less how much a car weighs when it goes 0-60 in 2.5 seconds or whatever. It's irrelevant.

That being, I wouldn't be surprised if the G90 is slower than the F90 because of the weight.....1,000 pounds is still real in terms of speed. I believe the i5 M60i is slower than the G30 M550i so I think that's a sign of things to come that the new models aren't going to be faster (even though every model has gotten way faster up until now).

The new M5 is lighter than every car I have owned in the last 20 years LOL! It will sell. Hybrid powertrain is underrated and my guess is will be putting out around 800 HP. Will feel just as fast or faster due to electric assist. I don’t really care what actual 0-60 on stopwatch will be because it will still beat 99% of cars on road at a stoplight with xdrive. BMW does a great job of having people dislike their cars before they are produced and then people still buy them when they come out….its going to be a monster daily driver!

Let's do some maths shall we?

F90 weight (highest published figure) 4,345 lbs. Rated Power = 625. Power to weight = 6.952 lbs/HP.

G90 weight 5,368 lbs. MAX Power = 718HP. Power to weight = 7.47 lbs/HP. Now, let's factor in the fact that you CAN deplete the battery in full during a driving session and now you're left with 577HP. Same fat weight. This yields a power to weight of 9.30 lbs/HP.

Those are hard figures, you cannot change them. What the engineers CAN do is fill in a lot of that electric torque way down low which will yield a better 0-60 — since that seems to be all that the general public care about any more.

I believe that 0-62 (0-100) may be a tick faster than the F90. I think 100-200kph are going to be slower. Top speed will be lower (unless Cd is much lower vs. F90). If power delivery is managed like all of the other hybrid systems recently released, the computer is going to decide when and how much kick you're going to get out of that side of the power plant.

I love that my F90 is a perfect blend of power and luxury — but I also love that I paid for a car w 625HP and that I can have it all any time I put my foot down until the tank runs out.

I'll test drive one of the new G90 when it comes out later this summer - but likely I'm out for the series.

Yeah yeah, call me old, call me not in tune w the future. I just can't justify spending that kind of money on a car that is going to be slower, and potentially a LOT slower once the battery is depleted.
Pretty sure like the XM you can’t deplete battery completely because there will always be some in reserve to preserve performance. So power to weight ratio will be unchanged…
