As you are still in the Padawan learning stage, there will be no formal letter placed in your BP-OT jacket but please take this warning seriously.

He visited a small town in southern Wales, called Merthyr Tydfil. It is an ex iron ore and coal mining town. Very much a working mans town, generating many amateur and professional boxers. It is unglamorous and a hard environment. Kudos to Mike, as he took what was clearly a personal detour to pay respect to two local fighters. Laying flowers at the statue of "The Merthyr Matchstick" Johnny Owen, who died in 1980, after being fatally injured in a boxing match. He also paid his respect at the statue of Howard Winstone, a Welsh world champion boxer in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. For all of Irons Mike’s faults (of which there are many), his personal homage to two fellow professionals, made me appreciate that he clearly has a great deal of respect for his chosen sport. Further, that we shouldn’t judge a man on his failings alone. Thanks for the prior posts - it was interesting to hear your thoughts. |

But he was a guy that inspired a lot of people that where you come from doesn't matter if you're willing to put in the work. There were tons of kids in his era from the same streets that saw him break from the "mold"....and maybe that inspired hope in them. It's just a shame that his actions later in life pretty much screwed all that up.

If I need any of that, I just order some food from Frisch's Big Boy. They deliver TP and hand sanitizer with your order. Awesome sauce!

I have a Macallan No.4 edition that I'm working through, very good. Also, the Dalmore is just a good scotch all around. Nothing to sneeze at. But I also find my tastes wander to the smokier / heavy on the peat side from time to time. I don't know if it is something like a palate cleanser or what, but I really enjoy a smoky heavily peated scotch often. So I'm not sure if I'm a very good barometer (though I'd say nothing I recommended above comes close to peat), but I am giving my own impressions. As always, explore what hits the spot for you! |
