Ontario has just announced that it will be spending $400B to build a new nuclear plant to keep up with the increasing demand for electricity to power EV's. The problem is it will take at least a decade and maybe more and will probably cost double because in Canada government can't do anything on time and on budget. Then there is the issue of who pays. We all know it's the taxpayer and the user of hydro (also the taxpayer). We pay among the highest electricity prices in NA and this is going to drive those prices up higher. Not sure driving an EV is going to remain cost effective in my life time.

I’m concerned about the same issues here. Our administration is pressuring the off-lining of fossil fuel power plants while renewables lag and have issues with variable production. You can’t expand demand by around 30% and terminate production capability at the same time on artificial time scales.

There really hasn't been any increase in range nor much talk about any Eco or Environmental savings from there for a while. In fact, if you look at their website, the only place that even comes into play are the tax credits and some number on how much money could be saved vs driving a gas car... maybe they realized selling 100s of thousands of Ev's is a poor way to go about bringing a car that is to save the planet.
Uncle Sam is doing the enviro pitch for them.

Sure, the big pitch is sustainable energy is cheaper than Nuke and Fossil fuels even though they only make juice about 40% of the time.

They might be saying they are off lining plants but they are giving oil companies tons of money to restart units at the same time. So don’t believe what you read. It’s crazy to me. This push for EV’s has been so strong the last few years and come to find out after the Pandemic we need more gasonline than ever. Lol. I love it. Merica baby!!!!

Hoping that we manage our grid wisely for the increased demand.

As a second car for local runs ev is fine. It will in the foreseeable future not reach range or cost parity with ice..with regards to grid.. when I plug in it at peak times tells me " could we postpone the charging as there is too much demand on the grid'. It's years from 2030. The infrastructure is not ready.

I would consider a cheap small used eV run-around also for running errands and squeezing into public car parks if it wasn't for the big brothers ''you will do as you are told'' stance.

Evs seem to be best when slow and ice seems to be best when fast. Regardless forcing Ev on people who do fast highway miles for long distances is weird.

Indeed the faster you go, the range you can travel drops down significantly in an EV.
Some friends of ours made a trip to Switzerland recently in their 2 YO tesla and next time we see them I'll ask how they got on, looking forward to that.

Which reminds me of my friend who decided on purchasing the model s to take a trip from Glasgow to Paris for supercharger free miles to avoid flight costs.

His daughter developed diarrhoea due to a virus and he had to make so many stops along the way...plenty of opportunity for charging # should have flown#would have still happened with ice.

Sure . In this case it wouldn't have made any difference whatever mode of transport EV or ICE with the constant stops for his daughter to relieve herself and flying would have been better in this case.

I did say I would post another Jag EV suv catastrophe but we've had that so here's a Tesla destroyed at a dealership.

Here's a Tesla fire while it was being charged inside a garage, note the above living quarters.

Kia and Hyundai, there's a saying that you only get what you pay for as glaringly obvious with these mass produced SK cheapies.

I just want those who fear cars catching on fire to be armed with a list that warrants maximal anxiety. Why limit oneself to Teslas or EV Jaguars? Facts can facilitate the most emotional carnage from automotive immolation.

The 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe should cause some on here to really clutch their pearls.

Been in NC living the ICE life for a couple of months now. Had to come to FL for some work stuff and was reminded how I miss my model 3!
