Driving range. I have been arrogant and certain my ball striking is always there on tap. I don't need no driving range. Thursday proved differently. Please golf gods - forgive my arrogance.

I need to go to the range as well. I think if I spend about 30mins hitting my irons, I will be able to figure something out.....well, that's the thought anyways..haha!

If I just spent 1 hour per week practicing chipping and putting I would score much lower. I have the full swing irons and woods figured out but I kill my rounds from 50 yards and in.

Though I won't be playing for a while as I have elbow bursitis from an injury on a waterslide back in March. It stinks and my elbow looks yucky. Now would be the time to practice putting as I'm sure that won't irritate things.

But..... more importantly too many guys play with slick grips. I play a "lot" of golf. 150 rounds a year so OK you don't have to do it as much as I do. But I've seen guys whose grips are 10 years old and impossible to hang onto. Reality is they need to be changed regularly. But even then in between the grips need cleaning to get the oils from sweat and sunscreen off them. If they are slick you need to grip too tight and that screws up shots.

All it takes is dish detergent in a sink. Dip the grip end in and use a nylon brush and rinse. Heck same with head end. Dip in. brush out the grooves and rinse.
That's a good point. I play around 1/2 as much as you, which is still 2x what most people play, and despite playing for decades I don't think I've ever really worried about cleaning my grips. I just swap out for a new one if they start getting slippery. At the same time though I was never really very good at maintenance before whereas now that I have my own expensive custom set I DO worry about it more and have tried to be a lot better about cleaning clubs in between rounds even if it's only a cursory wipe down.

One thing I would say though is to put some thought into how often you clean them because I think there's a happy medium, at least for me, between "brand new sticky" and "comfortably worn in and still has grip" and "must death grip if swinging full power".

Usually my wedges are the first to wear to that point since I'm hitting them damn near every hole, but I have 1 that I haven't regripped yet this year that's getting pretty slippery. I'll have to try cleaning the grip and see how it feels after.

Yes there is a happy medium. For myself I don't clean them often and the wedges are more frequent. When you feel it you know.

I really need a good range session. My new GT3 driver head should be in this week so I’ll get a session when I go and break in the new club at the range.

Lately been re-focusing on my alignment on the greens and have been putting the ball on line more reliably. Definitely scoring better.

Good luck and have some fun!

The wife and I are playing with her younger sister and her husband this Saturday! We are playing only 9 holes and her sister has never played. Should be a good time! I am really looking forward to it!

My goal is (haven't told the wife yet..lol) is to play 18 holes in September and 36 holes in October. Then work on my iron game a few times a month until next Golf League in April.

Played today. 1 over par after 4 holes. Feeling really good. My partner playing like excrement.
5th hole: I shank two 50 yard wedge shots into the water. He starts playing great...

WTF, ever get distracted by someone who's playing like crap and they transfer their misfortune to you?! It must be some kind of evil transcendental phenomena...

Seriously, when I'm playing well, I pay no attention to the score other than writing a number in the box. He's recording my scores and blabbing away, plus driving all around the course to chase his wayward shots. I play best when I play fast and not distracted by others' mayhem. I need to find a way to isolate my brain from group / partner chaos.

Been there before. I don't like anyone who I am playing with that talks nonstop. Kinda get's me out of the groove a little.

Luckily my golf partner this year didn't talk all too much but was funny. Made playing in the golf league a blast to be honest!

Mine last year, all he did was talk about himself to others and was a very, very and I mean very strict rule follower. Did not make playing in the golf league fun at all. Dude was complaining and yelling at me and he wouldn't even let me kick it a foot from the high grass next to the woods one time, I told him to "calm the fuck down!"

My partner was all over the place. I told him to stop thinking. It worked for him, but unfortunately the damage was done to my scorecard.

The first time I broke 80, my wife got a hole in one on the 6th hole. I wasn’t to be distracted. I didn’t add my score at the turn. I remained in the zone. I chipped in for birdie on the 18th for a 75. My best score ever.

But somehow, she didn’t have her pocketbook and I paid for the drinks in the clubhouse

Good job on getting the 75! I feel like once I play more I could achieve that! But I am around 95-105 right now and only play once per month when my golf league is over. Can't get better by doing that!

Congrats to your wife on the ace!

Lol! I am golfing with my wife and her younger sister and husband, I will make sure to have my wallet with me just in case she wants to pull that on me! But she is usually pretty good at always having some type of credit card on her (Phone case).

Saturday can't come soon enough! I enjoy playing a lot and wish I could play more to be honest! Just need to get those pesky irons dialed in and I know I would enjoy it much better. But I get to play with my wife and I enjoy playing with her as we always have a blast together!

Thanks. That was a few years ago. I was playing from longer tees too. I haven't played that course in a few years because they jacked their prices up and fired an elderly woman because they wanted to attract a "younger clientele". WTF?! The woman, Sandy, ended up working at another course a couple exits north. My wife and I played there a lot for $36 with the cart during COVID. I shot a 78 there. I haven't been able to break that barrier since.

FWIW, my three rounds after the 75 were 105, 106 and 104!

That is pretty shitty if you ask me! They could of kept her and hired a few other young girls. No need to fire her because she is a little older.

Wow! Sounds like my rounds. I am all over the place. I remember for 6 weeks straight in my golf league, I was hitting low 40s, then we had a rain out one week then I couldn't get back to my low 40s score rest of the season. Pretty frustrating!

I started the season (16 handicap) with the first three rounds of 82, 84 and 80. Then I took a trip to China for my kid's wedding - got sick on the way back. I have struggled ever since. I let my kid hear about it! I've had a couple of low 80's rounds, but my game has really suffered after the China trip. Well, that's my excuse for this season and I'm sticking to it!

Well, put a new driver in the bag and quite happy with it after 2 rounds.

Have been debating on a new one for a year or so and couldn’t bring myself to drop $800+ on a club I already hit pretty well and hit maybe 6-10 times a round depending on the course.

Decided to get fitted at Modern Golf to replace my current Taylor Made M1.

Hit the following with various shaft combinations:
- Ping G430 max 10k
- Cobra Darkspeed LS
- TaylorMade Qi10 LS
- Titleist GT3

Ended up buying the COBRA darkspeed LS 9° with Lina XS shaft and golf pride MCC4 grip.

Averaged 19 yards more than I hit the M1 and was consistently better dispersion than all the brand/head/shaft combos I tried. The GT3 I averaged 1 yard more then the Cobra, but worse dispersion and the shaft combo for the Cobra vs. Titleist ended up being $350 less before taxes.

After 2 rounds on the course very happy with the purchase. My ‘natural’ fade with the driver is now dead straight or even a slight draw.

It's just amazing how you take 1 week off of not playing, how unsync you get with your swing! It's just crazy to me when I was out there!

Haha! Good call! I would def blame him as well!

My biggest thing is to not over think and just go up to the ball, take a few practice swings to make sure I am swinging right then hit the ball. I think I was just over thinking things and not setting my feet correctly when hitting my irons. So...now it's time to fix that mess!

That is pretty awesome! I think if I played more, I would go get fitted for all new clubs but I don't play enough and the ones I have are perfect fine. Maybe in a few years.

I really like the Redbull TaylorMade driver but I don't want to spend $600+, I would rather put that money into some cool car parts!
