At that moment it looked like that . Because MAX said over the board radio that he got bad gear sync. issues .
That's why he lost P1 !

The RB18 got already gearbox issues before the sprint began ..

From what I saw today , I think the situation is changed because the RB18 lost some weight .
This means the RB18 is more friendly for the tyres as well...

There's a difference between thinking who's the best driver and who's gonna win the race.
I think Max is currently the best driver of the field. And the ferrari is currently the best car of the field.

Who's gonna win is a chaotic combination of fastest driver, fastest car, best strategy, race circumstances (what happens where and where are you), good teamplay, some luck, some bad luck you name it.

My money is still on LEC tomorrow, simply because his car is better/faster and he might get better racepace in the long run on the yellows.
But if strange things happen in the race (sc situations, red flags, rain etc), Max is probably the one who'll profit the most, because he has a talent for being there (wherever that is) at the strategic moments when it counts.
His split second strategic decisions (and RB's strategic decisions) are still the best imho.

But at this stage I don't think Merc can compete for the title anymore, unless their update is 1 second up on everyone else. But that's likely impossible.

Mick was even pulling away from Russ at the end of the sprint race. Merc is regressing. McLaren, Renault, Haas, Alpha all look quicker than Merc this weekend. The tension in the garage is starting to boil over too, as seen yesterday Toto yelling at Lewis for exiting his car before the session was over.

When there is no DRS, Merc really have no chance. They porpoise like crazy down the straights with the extra rear wing downforce. Really makes it difficult for them to make up positions at start of race or after safety cars.

Yeah I agree . I just read an article . HAM just said : We wont be the World Champs anymore .

The only thing that can change the bad Merc situation is like I said previously..

And even then , It's not sure 'IF a B-Spec car will come and perform better ..

MAX feels more happy in the RB18 , the balance and handling is improved .
By the lighter RB18 (- 6 KG ) the tyre graining is less as well..
