I've tried every platform. I recommend the p30 in 9mm. P30L, p30, and p30sk. I carry and primarily train with those. 1911s for fun and because....America!

Subcompact I'd go g43 with +2 Vickers mag extensions.

For a lady that cannot cycle a slide comfortably, a 38 special revolver.

I saw at the range today a Smith Wesson semi auto in .380 that is supposedly very easy to manipulate the slide. "Ez" model I believe.

I'd highly recommend a Glock 19. My mother is one of the weakest people I've ever trained with firearms and she still easily manipulated the slide. also look into techniques to manipulate the slide.

Worst case, may be better off with a wheel gun (revolver).
Another vote for the glock 19. Bought one for my wife and she handles it fine. It’s small enough sometimes I throw it in my pocket and use as a backup.

G19 is great for 95% of people out there.

I'd recommend the Gen 5 if you go that way.

The Smith Wesson 2.0 compact might be worth a look as well. It is available with a thumb safety if that floats your boat. Imho only the 1911 really needs one.

Agree on the Glock.

But can you really recommend one gen over the other? other than it being the newest?

If you can save $50-100 going Gen 4 or Gen 3?

There are deals for the gen 5 in the 400 range. You can also join GSSF and get a coupon that'll get you that price.

Agreed though those 3 gens are all great, but I like the ambi features of the gen 5

i’ve said it plenty, including earlier in this thread, i used to be a glock guy, the more i shoot anything else the less i like the glock.

they may be one of the best most reliable pistols out there, and if the world was ending i would probably pick up my g34 (parts are plentiful, blah blah blah), but compared to everything else in my safe they are not as fun to shoot, the trigger is not great etc.

The G19 is the one glock that i could never like, the 34 was my go-to for many years (classes and such) and it is in my bed side safe right now, the 26 was my favorite glock for years. I bought a 19 to carry, and because everyone else on earth has one so i thought i should check it out. I just don’t like it, grip angle, trigger (you can’t modify the stick trigger in a carry gun in ca) and it is so thick and blocky that i fins it less concealable then a full sized 1911, not to mention a spare mag.

If you are considering a glock 19 or 17 you owe it to yourself to try a CZ Sp01 and/or P01, they are so much more enjoyable to shoot.

If you don’t enjoy shooting it, then you won’t shoot it, if you don’t shoot it, you won’t be proficient and you shouldn’t carry it.

Isn't the P30 only available in 9 and .40? In that case, the Glock wins by default.

Yup, my mistake. HK45 is a 45 but it would be difficult to get here. The HK USP is my viable HK option.

It might not be for everyone, but the G19 was recommended for the wife as a first time self defense gun, which the G19 excels in undeniably. You even said yourself the glock would be your go to if SHTF. Which is what she would need in my opinion.

Also, I'd say the P10c would be a much better comparison to the G19 if his wife were to compare.

So?
They're known as 32 acp in the US. But it's because of penetration. The round is less powerful than a 32.

There are attackers that aren't even stopped by a 45 acp so saying a 32acp would stop any attacker is a stretch.

if you are looking for a tool that can be neglected yet trusted the g19 is your gun.

It is the toyota camry of guns, it does everything you need it to do, it’s just not enjoyable as you are doing it.

if you want to enjoy shooting, there are better options

I know cases, where attackers on druges weren't stopable by 9mm rounds fired more than one time on them.
I have no doubt that when the situation turns suddenly into life danger that most of ppl would draw their weapons...but shooting at alive persons is a different thing. Dont tell me you would unless you had done this.

Once perp has several holes with any round create some more space they will go down. For most individuals not high as fuck being faced with a gun is enough of a deterrent.

Yeah that's why I said even 45acp hasn't stopped attackers in certain cases. But the larger the caliber the better the odds. 9mm is where MIL and LEOs draw the line because of recoil and cost.

I deploy overseas frequently and I've had to on several occasions.

As for civilians, I know some that would (and have) and I know others that wouldn't.

Definitely agree with this. I only recommend the G19 when non enthusiasts ask for a self defense/EDC recommendation.

I figured in the heat of the moment, we're all going to fall back on what comes natural and i seem to just hit what i point at with the g19 without thinking about aiming.

I can be as accurate with the shield, but i have to focus on being accurate.

The point is, everyone is going to be more or less accurate with different pistols. The 13% less comfort from carrying the g19 is secondary to my ability to defend myself with it. As long as it's concealable, get her the one she shoots best.

Perfect example is my IMI baby eagle.... i took my wife shooting and gave her a $3k 1911 which is dead on accurate in my hands. She can't hardly hit the paper with it. I give her the Baby Eagle, which i can't shot for shit and she's throwing consistent 4-5 inch groups at 7 yds. Hell if i know, i'm just pissed because now i can't sell it, it's "her" gun now. lol

Had both those guns. Kept the G19 and sold the shield because I couldn't hit shit over 15 yards and couldn't hit center mass beyond 7 yards. I'm 6 foot 3 220 pounds though so I had a hard time gripping its small frame.

Agreed G19 is the GOAT defensive carry gun.
