I remember a similar spout being used for paper milk/juice cartons back in the 1970's.

There was also a spout for tapping oranges and similar citrus fruits, which let you squeeze the juice out of them.....

Unfortunately, the art/skill of leaving off a dab of glue at #52 so that the paper pops back and folds open has been long lost in the paper carton industry.....
