i never tried Trofeo R but back in the day it was significantly a quicker tire than Cup 2 for example.. and it allowed even lower pressures and stable grip lap after lap.. which is pretty cool.. then Cup 2 R came out.. lets not throw away Pirellis..

Tracks will be hotter in summer like today in Baku . It's the Pirelli tires and not the cars or the drivers . Horner noticed today that the first set of tires were running hotter than usual ! 7HAM pushed his Merc and tires over the limits as well at Imola + Monaco, just to get that extra point of the fastest lap , but there the track temps. were cooler . That's what's going on !

I use Michelin or Toyo. Will not choose a Pirelli.

Unintended humor at Baku and Magic Button
Checo arrives in style to the winner's circle, while hammy looks on in heartbreak from the Merc cockpit.
Cameraman rushes out in hammy's direction, he suddenly changes direction as the red safety limo pulls up with Checo. Checo hops out of the ultra uber, gives the camera subdued fist 'yes!' and walks calmly to the podium. Can't make this stuff up, so here’s the gif. Checo elated hammy devastated. He is very lucky to walk away without a scratch. Check out his speed right before the blow out. F1 cars are on the cutting edge for safety but the tire seemed to delaminate on a low abrasion track. Not good. I bet we would have seen other cars with 30+ lap tires suffer the same fate if not for the red flag. This may explain the motivation behind the red flag.

Both deflations, Strolls and Max's happened at high speed over 310kph so the whole tyre construction is suspect at over 300kph ''with the neg camber that teams use'' but there's not a lot Pirelli can do now.
For safety reasons teams may have to adjust wheel camber to more neutral as the problem seems to be the inside edge giving way with the excessive heat caused to carcass at that speed. |

A big deep cut from 5-6 cm is been found in Hammy's tires by Pirelli... Regarding MAX's tire It's unclear , because the tire blew in pieces ...

From what I saw of Max's tyre it was still on the rim, as you say parelli may be economical with cause, they can't scrap hundreds of tyres and start again.

Here's my weekly opinions
- My heart broke for Max when his tire blew. Its hard to know if he should have backed off or not more. Hindsight is 20/20 - My heart also broke for Ham when he just went straight into the run off. Tough break - Although it looks like a Drivers Constructors reset, I think Max is the loser from this as I think Ham will be dominate at the majority of the remaining tracks - Great to see Seb in 2nd. Great race and good strategy from the team - Pierre in 3rd warms my heart - PEREZ FOR THE WIN! So happy for him. He deserves it and hopefully this sets him right for the rest of the season. - Bottas is really really surprising me. Is it intentional or is he really struggling that much? - Quality drive from Leclerc - Norris had a relatively quiet day for 5th - Great to see Sainz mount a decent recovery drive after running into the runofff - Riccardo still needs to find his pace in that car. Decent recovery from out of the top 10, but it could have been better. - What happened to Russell? I feel like he was just out all the sudden and no one ever mentioned it. |

I thought Pirelli changed the PSI recommendation from Friday FP sessions to Saturday FP3 and qualifying, and subsequently the race. I'm sure they will forget about that in their investigation.
It was tough to see two drivers hit a wall at 300+ kph, but amazing to see them both walk away.

If you look at the racepace, both before and after the safetycar, VER gained a ~6sec lead quite fast and easily and after that kept that gap, indicating that he adjusted his racepace to PER pace. That both VER and HAM got taking turns at FL is just the increase of the racepace due to the cars getting lighter, but VER kept his lead fairly constant, indicating that he was sparing tyres and the car. And with still 6 laps to go you can't slow down 1sec/lap if you have a ~6sec lead. You need that 6 sec if you for example miss a brakepoint for a turn and miss the racing line, picking up debris on your tyres. (at the moment of the crash, I timed the gap between VER and PER at about 5 sec.)

I'm not saying it was his fault, but I was surprised they were pushing so hard not knowing what happened with STR and with Pirelli's previous issues with this problem. I was somewhat surprised none of the leaders came in to change tires during the SC. But, I get it, track position is king, unfortunately for RB and VER they lost that gamble. |
