In November of 1961, the Beach Boys recorded their first song to hit the charts, Surfin'. The next month, on December 23rd, they did their first concert performance at the Rendezvous Ballroom in Newport Beach, California, performing two songs during the intermission at a Dick Dale concert.

Under the influence of the California surf culture and the Beach Boys, in 1963 I got my first Pendleton wool shirt. I still have a number of them -- I wonder if the moths have gotten to them?
